MK5 GTI Pirelli Purchase - good buy???
« on: January 30, 2020, 05:20:30 pm »
Hi All,
This is my first post on this forum so please be nice lol. Been looking at selling my Audi A3 2013 to fund the Purchase of an S3 or GTI. I'm probably going to get about £8,000 for my Audi at best and the example's I've seen for S3's at this price range are pretty poor. So... I found a mk5 pirelli and the trader is willing to straight swap for my car and was wondering if I could get some opinions? Both links to the cars will be below.

Thanks!,
Darren

That's a lot of money just for those specific seats, wheels and steering wheel. Are you really keen to own  pirelli?

Initially I wanted an S3 but to get a good one for that price is unheard of, they all have 5+ owners and moon mileage. The GTI is a good alternative because its the same engine but cheaper and the pirelli’s are rare🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you looked at edition30 cars?

I can't comment on the value of your car but the golf at 1 owner and good miles isn't the worst value in the world. Add to that a nonhassle swap I think it's a good buy.

Check cam belt change in the history, vw say every 4 years so it should have had and is due one soon. Saying that Audi say every 5 years for more or less the same engine so I've been doing that on our e30. The only other thing we've had to ours is rear springs, outs is at 72k and one was cracked. Then it's the usual preventive stuff.

Good luck and keep us posted. I bet you've been up all night in excitement  :happy2:

Yeah i’m setting off in an hour to go view it, I’m pretty sure ill probably come home with it today. Mainly because im an impulsive buyer & i actually wanted an R32 but 2-3x the price of the gti on insurance for me :(

Same here Rado.  We live in a temperate climate, so the rubber should last better than somewhere which sees -20c in winter.

I decided not to swap for it. Mechanically the car seemed sound but there was service history missing from 2011-2014 that needed chasing, alloys were destroyed all round, was on some budget tyres (think that says a lot) & it needed bits and bats doing i.e new wing mirror, slight bubbling/rust on passenger side front arch. For a swap i’d prefer a car that was already bang on so will keep looking, hopefully if my car sells I will have it a bit easier but not all garages are willing to swap. They value my car at 6-6.5k trade lol
