LED rear lights
« on: March 04, 2010, 02:02:14 am »
Can some one help me with the stock numbers for these parts please. I was at the dealers the other day and they couldn't find them on the system, he reckoned they were probably an aftermarket item. I'm sure though i've read on here of people buying the lights from their dealers?

They were only available as an option on the continent, hense they're LHD and have to be converted (fog and reverse lamps swapped, easy job).

Made by Valeo. German ebay is your best bet.

This thread may help you: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,4469.0.html

Also, Hurdy has recently fitted some - He probably got fed up of looking at mine on our last Nurdleburgering trip

They're a massive improvement over the stock version, but s you can see, having LED rears doesn't improve your ability to hit apexes.......

....Yes, but you're right: The majority (not all) of the corners on the Nurdleburgering are best taken through the apex and in my own defence I've been told I'm quite good at selecting the line.

I've always been aware of my apparent 'wrong' line this pic shows and thought that perhaps I was following the tyre marks you can see in front of me, or I may have been drifting (not literally) across to the right to let a faster car overtake. I'm sure I've been told to stay clear of apexes a bit more in the wet because it's where rubber collects and the mix isn't clever.

On the otherhand, I probably just cocked it up. I have much to learn and at my age so little time to do it, but at least I'm trying and enjoying it. :drinking:

I'll be 63 in a few weeks!  :scared:

Not fitted mine yet. I've swapped the reverse and fog lights over, but still not 100% if i'll fit them or re-sell as a track car doesn't really need LED rears :innocent:

Ha ha, stop fretting!! The wet line is completely different to the dry - so you were probably right in terms of the safest one to be on.

I thought that pic was from Spa actually for some reason.

To avoid brushing up on your German, I would send an email to shop@kunzmann.de telling them exactly what you want to purchase (include the URL for the lights), http://shop.kunzmann.de/de/produkte/produkt/fahrzeugveredelung-volkswagen-golf-v-03-08/led-rueckleuchten-set-kirschrot-vw-golf-5-v.htm

They should reply in English and accept Paypal and CCs for payment.

Excellent...top tips guys and Mr Hurdy if you decide not to go ahead with your leds and look to sell them on I'd certainly be interested. Right time to follow some links and find out how easy this lense swap thing is.

A slight edit to this post...does the led light section on the hatchback not light up? Just follwed an earlier link and only the outer section was on. Must admit its not often you get to look at the back of your own car and not really sure what works on the present setup. Apologies for being a doofus :stupid:

Justtried the google translate...Bloody fantastic :happy2: Oh dear german ebay here I come

....The 'inner' units (on the boot lid) unfortunately don't have LED bulbs to light up but I've noticed that they are formed so they could have LED bulbs fitted. But it would be a very tedious job.
