Do you use any chemicals or just wire wheel on a grinder to get all the underseal off?

Just a wire wheel on the grinder. Wish there was some kind of chemical I could have left on there to soak. It was hard work.

Thanks. I was hoping you'd found some miracle stuff that made the job less of a nightmare. I've had the stonechip and that for two years and still haven't done it.

It's not a job I'd want to do again, not even if i was being paid  :jumping:

Do those match yours except for the compound difference?

I’ve had many comments regarding the arch kit from friends and social media expressing how the car was in desperate need of some side skirts.

Well, I’m currently breaking a MK1 Leon Cupra R and had a brain wave regarding the side skirts. I offered them up to the golf and found they were only 5mm or so too short of fitting. With the rear arches I didn’t need the end anyway, so I cut the end cap off. I then stupidly decided to cut where the skirt met the rear arch, as I thought it would be easier to scallop the end piece to fit the arch. BAD IDEA. Then meant plastic welding it back together, which was harder than I thought. Never done it before. Got the hang of it in the end though.

I have made a little more progress than these pictures but forgot to get updated ones. I am actually smoothing the jacking covers into the skirts.

I still need to do a little more fettling with the end piece that meets the rear arch. But otherwise, I’m happy with the result.

Progress has been made!

I sent the engine over to a friend to have the inlet valve blasted. I do have more pictures, but you get the idea.

Finally got the bay painted!

First coat laid down.

The finished product, Porsche Crayon Grey with red flake in the lacquer. The flake will only be in the engine bay. Not over the whole car. (Very hard to see the flake in pictures, sort of need to take a picture out of focus.)

Got the KO4 injectors tested by TSR Performance. Came back all good.

Finally got the engine back in the hole last night.

That’s it for now.

The finish is in sight!

Nice! Can see the flake in the pictures but it kinda looks like the paints dirty. Lol But I'm sure it will look better in the light

Sorry it's been a while, again...

Let's try and do this in some order  :signLOL:

I bought a very cheap set of Nankang AR1 245/40/18 from Chris McDermott, he'd only done a few laps on an evening session!

Next, I'd bought a new Ramair ProRam filter - Sadly myself and Eddie (who does my fab work) had a little communication error and the filter is on the big side. However, you'll see a little further on that it doesn't loom to bad in the end.

Bought some bits for the pipework that Eddie has done:

K03 to K04 DV loom

Some silicone bends etc.

MAP boss

Small K&N for custom catch can (not yet fabricated)

Here's the finished work by Eddie! Yes, titanium intake

Can also see here my Spal fans, aluminium rad and custom fan shroud.

Some pictures of the Golf on the ramp

After bleeding the clutch and brakes - I drove the car out the unit under it's own power!

Bought some things...

Spray booth for the unit  :stupid:

Also bought some cheap cars...

An A3 2.0tdi Quattro (snapped cambelt) I've broken it for parts and going to keep the Quattro set up for the golf for future

Bought a MK5 GTI DSG with a good spec, needing an engine which I also bought, fit engine, sell for profit.

Also bought a standard Polo GTI 9N3 that I was going to put a new gearbox in and sell on, but ended up giving to younger brother as a track toy  :ashamed:

Anyway, back to the Golf - Mapping is booked at TSR for 13th October  before that, I'm hoping to get an alignment and MOT on it! Hopefully, my new Recaro SPG's will be here in time!

Thanks for reading  :happy2:

Good to see it starting to be put back together! When you hoping to get it on track again? Next spring? Wouldn't mind seeing this go!

God damn you! You replied to quick ahaha, it's now in order with some wording.

I'm hoping I can get out at Combe on the Halloween Action Day for a little tester before splashing out on track days!

Yes, I know all about them... Last session I went out on I had a Zafira GSI trying it's hardest to keep up with with me - it was very quick in the straights. But cheap brakes meant he'd kept setting fire to his pads!! So I just let him past. GOONS!!!

Car went off for a quick alignment at Harvey’s Autotech

Eddie came down and welded up my catch can. It’s come out perfectly!

I’ve also changed the spark plugs to NGK BKR8EIX as per recommendation from TSR, who will be mapping the car.

They also said to put 10W/60 oil in it so that’s what I’ve done. Fuchs Titan is what was used.

Mapping is Wednesday 13th - well that’s when I’ve got to drop the car off to probably collect Saturday.

That’s it for a minute.
