Buying a gti mk5

Hi guys new here been lurking for while and thought it was time to sign up.

I’ve wanted a mk5 gti dsg for a while and now in a position to get one, went and had a look at 6 different ones all local ish to me at the weekend ranging from £3000 to £5000 and come away really disappointed all was in bad condition with rust, destroyed alloys , badly damaged body work and one with a mouldy boot and seats.

I’m feeling a bit stuck with what to do really 5k was around my max but there’s some lower mileage ones local to me around the 7-8k mark that look mint. Do I really need to be spending that kind of money to get a decent one or have I been unlucky with what I’ve been to look at so far, when I was looking 2-3 years ago they seemed a good bit cheaper.

Recently I paid £2800 for mine 06 reg (manual) with 86k mileage good service history, overall good condition for the year 1 rusty wing that I've sorted and has curbed wheels overall I'm happy with it and price I paid. Keep looking you'll find a good one within your budget

I travelled over to England to buy it, couldn't have been easier.
It needs repatriated

Still looking guys seen a good few selling on autotrader for a round £5500-£6500 and they seem to be selling pretty quick as well some are only up a day or two maybe I need to up my budget.

Went and test drove one the other day with around 80k on the clock it drove great just had cam belt and water pump done, it did need a dsg service, no rust but the body work was pretty scratched up in places looked like a dog had been jumping up at it.
Also had plastic door guard/protectors that stop you dinging others peoples cars , not sure what the paint would look like under them as not sure if water gets in behide them and causes issues ? Any way he wouldn’t budge on the price and at £6400 and I though it was to much.

I’ve looked at a few but for a nice one there way over budget and in budget ones are all high mileage , There’s a Pirelli edition close me with Just over 100k on the clock but I can’t stand the seats in them lol that’s up for 7k

Thats true sometimes you get lucky and find one have to keep looking. Pirelli editions I like them but then again I dont, but I can see them increasing in value in the future.
