Thanks to an awesome SteveP (pics on page 3)
« on: March 05, 2010, 06:40:52 pm »
Mega-thanks for fitting the reverse camera to my car.  :congrats:
And for upgrading the firmware.
And for reinstalling the maps.
And for putting up with my awkward car.
And for tolerating my jibber-jabber!

 :star:

Wish I could have been of more use, other than just hanging about.

Was very tempting whilst in standstill traffic to hit reverse and have a play.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I didn't take any pics of the fitting. Figured SteveP was already frustrated with the car. Besides, it was freezing out there!

The fact that it was five door made it easier with access. The rest of the car didn't play ball. The trims were very hard to remove and even harder to replace. There were issues with the wiring. Once everything was fitted, the camera wouldn't work. This turned out to be an RNS-510 issue and the firmware was problematic (it was originally 1100, I had upgraded to 1200. Apparently, the camera is fine with 1100 and 2680 but 1200 had issues), so the firmware was upgraded to 2680 (and then the maps had to be done). There were further issues with the camera.

All in all, a 3-hour job turned into a 5-hour saga.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
