Image search
« on: March 05, 2010, 07:37:57 pm »
As i'm currently looking at lights I thought I'd give the search option a go first to save posting same old questions. However when entered it brings up lists of words within the topics that are appropriate to the search.

As a suggestion would it be an easy/possible thing to have an ' image search ' box. ie type in led lights into the image section and up comes the results with an actual picture and link to the topic it was found in.

Just a thought.

Despite what people might think...I use the search quiet often.  Unfortunately, the results aren't as reliable as "googling"   :chicken:

For instance, do a search for 'chrome switch' and the results aren't complete....

Given that posted images are originally sourced from a huge variety of places and that the code doesn't necessarily describe the image subject accurately, I think it would probably be very unreliable if indeed it was possible within this site.

But SteveP will know the answers to this better than I do.

^^^ Robin is correct, as we don't host the images on the site it's difficult to index them for searching. If we win the lottery and can afford our own dedicated server then we could offer image hosting via the Gallery which can support searching.

How much would a dedicated server cost you? I'm just curious as to how much you'd need to raise.
