Oil cap separated?
« on: February 26, 2020, 11:46:50 am »
Just looked under my bonnet for an unrelated reason and noticed half my oil cap was missing! You can see in the photo its next to the dipstick - anyone had this happen before?!

Im baffled as to how its happened. You can also see part of the rubber surround is protuding from the engine cover. Ill be jacking the car up and having a look underneath later as there seems to be some possible oil residue on some of the pipework on the left handside and undertray which Im intrigued as to where thats coming from considering Ive replaced the boost hose clips not that long ago

Bought some cheap tat off Ebay and it's happened again.

Yep - happened to me too. My garage kindly gave me a replacement one FOC, but in the end I found the other half of the cap resting down in the engine bay and was able to reassemble it. Hasn't happened since!

Never seen this before.

I can imagine some  :booty: turning it the wrong way with a good amount of force and that may have done it in.  It's funny how people forget how to tighten and loosen a lid on a jar when they stand over an engine.

I did a bit more digging online and found its not uncommon. Apparently if your engine cover is loose or broken/missing a fixing etc it moves about slightly and where it surround the oil cap the edge can get between the 2 halves of it and seperate them.

Resolution? But the 1 piece Porsche item (or sort your engine cover I guess!) -
