Fault Code P0914
« on: March 12, 2020, 06:47:51 pm »
Good evening everyone, I'm currently sitting at the side of the road waiting for the RAC to recover the car back home. I have a DSG and was driving home from work, car in D when all of a sudden if felt like the car was in neutral. I pulled over, put the car in park and then went to restart thinking that would reset it. Now the car wont start and the PRNDS in the display just flashes. Quick scan of the codes with a generic reader I keep in the car and fault code P0914  gear shift position malfunction is coming up.

Whilst I'm sitting here waiting the 2 hours for the RAC to turn up I'm trying to see what needs doing, any guys out there with any knowledge of this would be great.

Cheers

Sounds like an inhibitor switch type of problem, the car won't start as it thinks it's in gear rather than park.

Checking the park switch on the selector and that seems fine, I can here a relay of sorts click when I press it. Concerning thing found though was the motor/solinoid type thing in front of the selector it is roasting hot like it has a current passing through it but not moving. I'll try and attach a photograph of the part.

Still waiting for RAC and its quite chilly up here.
