Hey guys, haven't been on in a while but still running a mkv Golf GT. The old girl has just creeped over 140k and has been for the most part trouble free. However, over the last few weeks I've been experiencing a strange issue. At sporadic times the car seems to drop in to limp mode, there doesn't seem to be a pattern, it does it when hot or cold, low and high speeds, and while it will not rev beyond 3k, if you dip the clutch it will, but there is no real power. If I pull over and switch off for a few minutes then re-start, and rev it, it still won't go beyond 3k until I start driving again, then it appears to be back to normal. On the way home from work last night, it went 'limp' almost immediately, after 10 minutes I was on a clear stretch of road, so I dipped the clutch and switch off while free wheeling, switched back on and it was fine for the remaining journey. At no time do I get any warning lights (check engine etc) and from a basic scan tool there are no fault codes logged. Ideally I'll find someone locally with VCDS to get a proper scan, but in the mean time, I wonder if any of you fine fellows had experienced anything similar? To note, the turbo isn't making any unusual noises but when I lose power, it's almost like driving a diesel without a turbo. One other thing, I had a new clutch and flywheel fitted at 120k. Due to cost I was forced in to going for a solid flywheel rather than a dual mass, since having this done the engine sounds like a bag of sh*t between 1900-2000 revs. I've had it looked at but have been told the clutch/flywheel would need to be removed and returned to Sachs for checks. During this time I'd be without a car, and if the checks show no fault, I'd have to pay for removal and refit again......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**EDIT** Just used my old Shark STS, and found a full code, Po234, which relates to overboosting, looks like the turbo needs a clean!
