Intake whistle?
« on: December 16, 2015, 03:50:39 pm »
Had the ramair for a week and only had the whoosh and turbo spool noises. Now fitted the vwr kit and these 2 are nice a quiet BUT today upon full throttle and high revs I heard a whistling sound. It's not always there but it's there.

Best way to describe or enact it is by trying to whistle by breathing in (backwards whistle. Lol)

Pls note I noticed there is a tiny hole in the filter housing which I assume is to stop condensation. Maybe the air going through causes this whistle?

There are a few threads on here where people have 'the whistle' and can't get rid of it. Dont have the threads to hand but from memory the solution wasn't found and the induction kit just removed as the end result.

I had a whistle which tuned out to be the inter cooler hose leaking slightly, you might be lucky and it be that. unlikely though if it wasn't present with the standard airbox.

I am trying to google but some people refer to a different whistle. I didn't have it on std air box, nor with the ramair kit which I removed yesterday but I do with this kit. It is literally when my foot is stuck to the floor. I also have a new dv rev d so it can't be that.

My old P Flo had the exact sound you describe when booting it, which drove me mad! think its how the air is passed through from the filter, however like you say, my ramair doesn't either. How come you changed the ramair to the vwr?

After my Rev G split i went back to my trusty backup Rev D, and my intake has started to make a slight whine again. Hopefully When i fit a new Rev G in the New Year it'll go

Yeah G is rubber too, but an improved version.

I keep flitting between a G, a D and my GFB DV+.    For me personally on my stg 2 ED30, the DV+ gives the best results in terms of throttle response and hanging onto boost, but it does need periodic cleaning / oiling.  It starts to chirp coming off the gas part throttle to give a clue when to do it.  Normally it's silent.

http://www.gfb.com.au/products/blow-off-and-diverter-valves/dv-plus

It retains the factory electric solenoid but they totally redesigned the valve part.  It's a good bit of kit.  It will never fail in the way rev G does and doesn't leak boost like rev D can, apparently, although I never got that with my D.

Is your car k03?

I had the vwr on for a week while I was k03 and it whistled under acceleration - hated the sound and even when speaking directly with vwr they said its common with k03 turbos... At least it is with their kit.

That sound is from the dv placed in the turbo k03. Relocating the dv to the front as the k04 that ugly sounds is removed
