Front end needs a respray :-(
« on: March 07, 2010, 09:28:15 am »
Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good body shop in Sussex?? There's nothing more disheartening than trying to take pleasure in cleaning the car and finding stone chip after stone chip after stone chip over the bonnet...

And yes, it's Tornado Red so I'm guessing it's 'tricky to get a match' as one body shop has already said to me....

Red is impossible to match - fact (will always look different in different lights). The pigment in red comes from a stone (forget which country) & each stone is different hence you can never get a consistent match

Are the chips that bad ?, i would just touch them in and live with it, the respray imo has the ability to look far worse than a few stone chips

Yeah thats the biggest concern. Dont want to go for it and for the car to end up looking worse.... I've tried the touch up stick, but its not that great either.

182_blue is right, on such a large area even quite a large number of chips will blend in.
Either pay a pro to touch in (get a recommendation!) or have a go yourself (there a quite a few guides on the web)
maybe try on a test panel before having a go on your car  :signLOL:

my bonnet had been painted before i got my car and i ve been to 2 of the best painters in the country and they both say its the best it ll be cause the pigment in the red paint to respray in this country is different to the factory , mine looks spot on in day light but under artificial light slightly different shade ! so if you can get it touched up by a pro  :happy2:
