RNS510 completely dead - black screen
« on: March 30, 2020, 08:36:17 am »
Morning all.
So last week i was out in the ed30, RNS510 was working well, but i turned the car off and when i came back to it, the headunit didn't respond, just a black screen.
There was no start up screen or anything. Tried hitting on / off a few times but still nothing.

I then tried to reset the unit with the left / right and star buttons but still nothing.
At this point, i thought i'd damaged a wire or something, so decide to get the unit out. I checked, but no damage to any wires could be seen. I've checked the fuse on the unit itself and the fuse under the bonnet, both still good.

I'm kinda at a loss here, and don't know what else to try. I didn't think these units would just "die" like that, and i don't fancy shelling out for a new unit.
Part of me is tempted to buy the RCD330 as its a cheaper unit, however im worried about the OEM reverse camera integration!

Could anything else recommend i tried anything with the RNS510 before i write it off?

Have you got VCDS? Maybe a scan might show something?
