Insurance increase for Bluefin....which is now in the post!

Just enquired with my insurance company about getting Bluefin. They want another hundred till June and then for next year my premium goes from £509 to £746!!!!!!!!   They insure me on a 320bhp Scooby for less than that!
 Does that seem average or is that a pretty expensive increase? What everyone else's experience with remaps and insurance putting the price up?

Change your insurance company to a more mod friendly one. Dont waste your money now, wait till it expires before hitting the slope.

Thats what I'm thinking but I really wanted it sorted for next weekend when I go away for a while. I wonder if they'll reimburse me some of my premium if I cancel it and go somewhere else?

No there will be a cxlation clause or fee in your small print. Wait till it expires and go elswhere

All of that and my insurance became cheaper with Adrian Flux by £80. So if you ring around you can get good deals. Adrian Flux at the time even told me they would beat any quote i got (which they did by knocking £10 off).

More Than who i was originally with nearly had a heart attack when i gave them the list of what i was doing.

Admiral at the moment. They've been spot on to be honest and they have always matched my best quote but £90 pound for 3 months is a bit much!

thats strange, they charge me 200 quid extra for my mods compared to standard

I think insurance companies make it up as they go along, i thought i would be stung big time with my age and mods but no increase and i have declared everything. They do broker for loads of insurance companies though so maybe your with a different one through them.

I am with greenlight and they were cheaper than my un modded car, I have an ed30 with only a stage 1 chip, and you know what, they suggested that it would be cheaper (which it was) with more mods, so i have declared a stage 1 chip AND CAI which I don't have fitted as it was cheaper. Go figure that, first time I have ever overdeclared mods (i.e. declared mods that I have made (in terms of engine power) to get cheaper insurance.

One other thought guys is the thorny issue of modded cars and agreed value insurance. If the car gets nicked or burns, then how much do they pay out, I also have a highly modded 993 (RS clone) have declared all mods but car is worth about £18k more than std, if not on agreed value policy would be very difficult getting them to pay out any more than std 2nd hand value. Not an issue if you just fit a chip, but carl thats a wedge load of value on those mods, if it got nicked bet they would just pay out for std Octavia RS.............? Worth checking the small print. On the Porker I need to get a letter from the Porsche Club GB register secretary as to how much the car is worth and then declare that value to the insurance company and insure for that agreed value.

Phoned Adrian Flux....£690 with the new wheels and stage1 Bluefin compare to £500 as standard. Still think thats quite high considering I'm 32, 10 years no claims and an I've passed and advanced driving test.

Just been in touch with Greenlight too and I'm er, impressed somewhat. For me, the ball and chain, the mods and business use its £470! £36 pound cheaper than I'm paying without the mods at the moment!

Theres clearly only one explanation as RobH said!

I think insurance companies make it up as they go along!
