Near side wing mirror glass replacement.
« on: April 22, 2020, 06:25:01 pm »
Passenger side mirror glass parted company from its backing plate on the wing mirror.
Even managed to take a few chips of door paint with it.
Any up to date recommendations for a replacement?

That's funny, mine did the same a couple of weeks ago, I've just stick mine back on for the time being. I did get a replacement from ebay part number 7M4 857 521 D, not sure if that's the correct one though, it's slightly convex and I'm unsure if my original one is or not.

My passenger side did this about 6 months ago - didn't fall off but the mirror glass was loose enough on the backing plate that it was wobbling around at speed. Very off putting when driving!
Got a used replacement and then that started to do the same! Think it must be the age of the glue. I gorilla glued my original one back together and has been good ever since!

Ebay ones tend to be OK, especially at the price, had to replace 2 on my Mk4 - the joy of city living...
Just make sure you get the correct colour, Blue tint for Gti

The only blue tint on a 2006 GTI is on the windows.

More annoyed with the chipped paint that's been left on the door.
Need some touch up.

Well my remaining drivers side mirror isn't tinted blue.
The seller also confirmed that OEM weren't blue tinted either.
Your not looking thru your blue tinted windows?

Afraid not - its looking at the mirror whilst fitting inpro indicators!
