Fitting AUX into Golf Mk5 with RNS510
« on: April 30, 2020, 11:45:01 am »
Hi all,

I have a 58 plate Golf 1.9 TDI DSG, which I've just fitted an RNS510 unit to. I now want to add an AUX input to the car but not sure which is the best route to take.

I've looked at buying an adapter off eBay like this one (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-AUX-USB-Cable-Switch-Button-For-VW-JETTA-GOLF-MK6-MK5-RCD510-Black-New-UK/133058901013?hash=item1efaedb415:g:qT4AAOSwEJtc48Nm) but haven't seen any instructions on how to fit it.

I also have the armrest with iPod connectivity and have heard about upgrading it to an MDI kit, although I'd rather stream through the AUX facility than emulate the CD autochanger. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you! :happy2:

Yeah that link is what I use.  Simple enough to fit and works well.

MDI units are a pain the back side. They need constant firmware updates and specific leads for different versions of apple/android phones and even then there's no guarantee they will work...and that's before we even get to the issue of the RNS units not displaying album art properly etc etc.  Forget that route.  Just get a phone mount and a little Bluetooth dongle that plugs into your AUX in. Works a treat and considerably cheaper.
