I have the same issue and have had it ever since I bought the car with the rcd330 installed. How do you get rid of it? I miss being able to listen to music in my car without having to turn on the engine for a good hour in my old 2007 outlander haha

you should be able to get a correctly coded canbus provided you can tell the seller what the original configuration of the car hardware is. This unfortunately may mean a vcds scan to see what modules your car has installed so that info can be coded to the new canbus.

whereabouts are you as there is a list of members with vcds who may be able to do a scan in the vcds forum here.

The short term quick fix is changing the power to ignition os outlined here:

Thanks for your replies everyone, I am in Norwich @bacillus , I don’t have the equipment to do this myself, if you know of anyone that would be great. I have spoken to a couple vw specialist garages and they’ve quoted me around £100 to get the canbus updated but have said it will be more if I need a newer canbus.

look to see if anyone in your area  on this thread can help, https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,88875.0.html

If you plan to fit yourself (it's a pain for most) then see if anyone with vcds on the list can help take a scan to see what modules are installed. Get a printout or made a note of what's installed.
You can then install an uncoded newer canbus (it can be an used coded one as well) then get it coded using vcds. that part is easy to do if you've had an original vcds scan.

You will need a new canbus, the issue is your current canbus does not know how to power down your new head unit.
The job is only half an hour so £100 sounds a bit steep

@LC5F oh I see now that makes sense. would a canbus out of a mk6 do the job ? And then just find a garage to copy my cars config over to the new one do the job ?

I was under the impression if you buy a Rev L or newer canbus, you can just plug it straight it and it would work? Or do they always need coding? I'm a bit confused lol
