As subject, im about to take the plunge on an RNS510 and I have the option to go for a version B, or to wait and get a version C.  From all the searching a reading ive done I am confused which will be best for my needs!

Things im concerned about:

  • Power drain issues on older cars, does version B or C fix these issues?
I have an MDI for my arm-rest to retro-fit, ive seen somewhere that only works with Version B or older?
Also being an older car with mid-line and no MFSW will I have any other issues?

The more I read I seem to find conflicting information, can someone help to clarify before I make an expensive mistake!

Alternatively can the version and firmware be updated, so as long as I have a good unit without scratches is there any point in worrying about the other stuff?

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

C-unit is newer. Fewer issues plus there is more functionality available as the latest firmware is released. You have an older car so even if you went for a B-version, if you wanted to upgrade the firmware, it could potentially lead to power drain issues.

Save save save and go for C and updated canbus.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
