Alloy Wheel Refurb - South East Recommendations
« on: June 02, 2020, 01:44:10 pm »
Can anybody recommend a good place to get alloys refurbished in the south east (in/around Oxfordshire ideally)?

It appears the outside coat is coming off some of mine and theres some curb damage, would love to get them powder coated shadow chrome with grey inserts. How much money should I expect to pay for this type of work, I've got no clue!

Lepsons are in the South East (Kent) and are highly regarded.  I think they do collection & delivery anyway so distance isn't too much of an issue.

I paid £200 to get mine powder coated.  When I was getting quotes they ranged from £50 - £85 per wheel Inc valve/balance.

I'd 2nd @Pudding recommendation of Lepsons. Yes you will find cheaper, but I know several people that have used them, which is why I went with them and I was very happy indeed with the results.

I'd waited ages to pull the trigger and was ready to complain if they weren't perfect, but I really couldn't have been more pleased. They are still sitting in my loft though, I'll fit them one day.

Cheers

I have a set in for refurb currently with 'Just Wheel Repair', they should be back tomorrow so I can let you know how that goes
£80 per wheel all in, including collection and delivery (area dependent) and a change of colour from silver to a mid-grey.
They have branches in London and Essex and had a high rating on Trustpilot : https://justwheelrepair.co.uk/contact/

I also looked at this place in West London which swap your old set for a refurbed set while you wait!
That seemed ideal, and they also have good reviews, but were are bit too far to travel during lockdown.
There are few options on their page, and if you pick your size it then gives you further colour options : https://www.fawheels.co.uk/shop/category/volkswagen-golf-mk-v-2003-2008-wheels-for-exchange-346

Ok, so my wheels are back, and I'm a bit sad as they don't look as good as they did in silver  :ashamed:
Off the car they looked much nicer, but on the car there is not enough contrast between the wheel, tyre, and bodywork.
Oh well, at least they are not scuffed or flaking anymore.
As for the work, it's good but not perfect, there are a few tiny imperfections here and there (and no idea if that is normal on a refurb).

Good spot on that replacement service from FA Wheels! Their prices are pretty fair and it’s so much more convenient than making two trips and all the hassles of not having your car in between. Without any rush for lacquer to cure, you will likely get a better lasting finish too.

I used FA wheels swap service and the quality of the refurb is very good. Only watch out is they like to add little extras to the price due to excessive kerbing damage or buckle on your old wheel if they don’t run true. Also they charge for new valves on top of the price and like to try and sell you centre caps. Just wanted people to be aware - but for convenience the process is great. Drive in and about an hour later new refurbed wheels on the car and away. It’s a good opportunity to have your tyres changed if they’re at that point as well.

I completely agree with the above they had me on a buckled wheel and a little bit of wheel rash, they also wanted to charge me for 4 new valves at £20 a piece but that said they are a friendly bunch and the work is good.

@Stupots thanks for sharing your experience mate.  I haven't used them myself.  I just mentioned them based on reviews and a recommendation, so I'm glad to see they've met your expectations.  I just need to find a set of Pesceras now to forward onto them.  The finish on your refurb job is pretty dang good!

I've used Pristine in the past a few times.  Had a similar result to your Lepsons job the first time around, but the 2nd and 3rd set of wheels weren't quite up to their usual standards but were OK at 10 feet, lol.  I'd recommend them also if they've since improved their consistency  :happy2:

I'd 2nd @Pudding recommendation of Lepsons. Yes you will find cheaper, but I know several people that have used them, which is why I went with them and I was very happy indeed with the results.
