Hammerite smooth is very good on calipers - many report good results and longevity

Got new rear calipers recently and the carriers are a bit more faded so going to top them up with a coat of this. Fingers crossed it's a close match!

Does the standard GTI come with red calipers?  Does the ED30/Pirelli come with red ones as standard too?

I have a Pirelli and have red calipers but I have never been sure whether this was done from the factory.

Follow up question - if you replace them with OEM ones, do they come red?

Standard GTI and ED30/Pirelli come with the red calipers as standard. They come from the factory prepainted. They have different part numbers to differentiate the colours (usually the last letter is different) - I don’t have the part numbers to hand but sure someone will be able to get it for you.

I just did my Ed30 rear calipers and frames with Halfords red caliper paint. So for so good but hey, they are brakes and they'll get manky soon enough on our crap roads here in Scotland so wasn't too fussed about colour match.  Fronts are pink in comparison so they will need done next time the sun shows. Worth getting some Xyelene thinners to thin paint for final coat and clean brushes as the Halfords stuff dries fast, as does Hammerite.

As a change from Smooth Hammerite -
I tried halfords red caliper paint, maybe it was a bad batch, but it was way too runny and coverage was very poor - colour is a lot more orange than standard VW red.
Even after days left to harden up the paint dissolved with brake cleaner.

Reverting back to hammerite

I used halfords caliper paint, did 3 or 4 coats so it took a while but it does dry quickly. Happy with the results.
I'll post pics if I can find them.
Next time I'll put some C5 on them as well.

I double dare you to try brake cleaner on them - C5 wont help
