brake upgrade MK5 GTI
« on: July 24, 2020, 05:49:17 pm »
now then everyone...

looking at upgrading brakes on the old MK5 and I've become tempted by the mk7 R caliper upgrade and I have a couple of questions!

firstly, do they bolt to the MK5 GTI carrier brackets or do they have their own different/bigger carriers? I've seen a lot on eBay which are reasonably priced but none of them have carriers with them!

secondly, with the MK7 R caliper installed do they allow for larger discs and if so what size?

cheers!

They bolt straight on and use 340/30mm discs.

Bolt on. MK5 hoses fit straight on as well  :happy2:  Although you might want to refresh those with new ones as rubber doesn't age well.  They're not expensive from VW.

Delighted with mine, performance is exactly as others have described here on the forum.
I was really lucky to find some on ebay, the pro breaker had not done their homework and listed them silly cheap.

I have to concur Mr LC 5F in the house......

I'm not normally an advocate of heavy old OEM brakes, but I've been very impressed with the MK7 calipers with Clubsport S discs.  Such a good combo.  With the Passat B6 control arms and knuckles, the weight gain from the hefty iron calipers and big old discs are negated  :happy2:
