Stage 1 remap issues
« on: August 01, 2020, 01:19:16 am »
Hi all,
Currently in process of getting a stage 1 remap. The car has managed to get up to 228bhp but then its losing some boost. The guys doing remap have checked all pipes and cant see no Leaks and reckon theres to much play in the turbo catridge and this needs replacing. Anyone else had issues losing some boost or trouble with the turbo catridge and would a faulty turbo cartridge mean loss of boost?

Hi,
I assume you are talking about a std mk5 gti ?  How many miles on the car? When was it last serviced?
there are some basic healthchecks that should always been done on these cars standard or before mapping, as there are known issues that can effect the running
e.g.
oil and filter change (good practice anyway)
diverter valve (often fails giving a boost leak) , swap out for current version
PCV valve (often fails giving running issues)
plugs
coilpacks (misfires)
fuel filter

Giving your car the once over in terms of TFSI knowledge would be a real plus.
If your garage has jumped straight to turbo turbine play without knowing or checking the above items (and more) then Id suggest they dont know enough about these cars to be mapping them...

Where do you live?
Can you get your money back and book in with RTech ? or a reputable VW specialist near you

Get the basics right first, then you know you have a sound car to map onto.

ok great.
im not a fan of GFB but lots on here love them, assuming its fitted ok should be fine.
garage could do a smoke test to check for leaks.
pcv always worth changing.
then VCDS to do some logging
looking at the turbo as the root cause would imo be the last cause.
Most of the time its something simple.

Whats the map type?

Hi john,
Its a rolling road remap stage 1.I had the turbo catridge fitted yesterday so that entailed new oil  filter. Car booked back in next Saturday on rolling road.
