Diverter Valve - Would you replace a version D with a G?
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:07:43 pm »
Hi all,

This is for my second GTI, I finally got around to inspecting the DV fitted to it (2005, 150k miles) and to my surprise it has been fitted with a version D.

I've already read version G is the best. Would you replace it with a G? I am kinda thinking yes, as I've read before that D can leak boost. It's a KO3 with only a Stage 1 map on it, so would it be likely that a D vs G wouldn't make much difference at my power level?

Thanks,
Ross.

R techs website states revision D diverters leak boost under “extreme loads”. I wouldn’t replace if the DV performs as it should at the moment.

I've never had any problems with Revision D, even at Stage 2+.  It's a myth they leak, and absolute nonsense they are 'designed to leak' which I've also heard/read.

G is a rubber diaphragm like A and C, so it will also tear eventually.

The fit and forget solution is either a D, or a Go Fast Bits DV+.

So I wonder why they went back to diaphragm design with the G? I guess we'll likely never know!

This is the best description I have found yet;
http://stratifiedauto.com/blog/volkswagen-audi-diverter-valves-how-they-work-the-limitations-and-what-you-need-for-your-tfsi/

The Rev. D can leak...but it doesn't mean they all, or even most, will leak. It has a stronger spring. And if you have one that works...it is better than the Rev. G. With that said, I believe VW will no longer have a Rev. D and are only found and made by aftermarket oem suppliers...Vemo and perhaps Pierburg. But a Rev. G will work when you are in need of another.

God knows, cost probably.  I guess they had to invest a lot in injection moulds for the plastic piston parts, whereas with the G, they already had the tooling in place from Rev A & C.  Just a guess.

Yes, exactly. Who knows.
I replaced my original C, early on in the 30k to 35k mile range, with a D. The D wasn't on long because I went to the K04 and the AWE DV at 58k miles. So I never got to see how long the D would last.
