My 3 door black manual GTI
« on: August 31, 2020, 07:22:19 pm »
Purchased August 2019, originally looking at E46 330Ci and Astra VXR. Hadn't even considered a golf as thought they were out of my budget! Ended up buying the first one I looked at.

Options
  • 6-speed manual transmission
  • Alloy wheels 7.5J x 18 painted anthracite grey
  • Radio with CD player replaced
  • Door pockets with insert mats
  • Standard climatic zones
  • Power windows with comfort operation and circuit breaker
  • Radio remote controlled central locking operated from inside and safe securing
  • 10 speakers (passive)
  • Automatic lights and window wipers

Current modifications list
  • Red GTI seat jack inserts
  • Smoked wing mirror indicators
  • 19CM Polo antenna
  • LED interior and rear number plate lights
  • Milltek non-resonated cat-back
  • Front HEL stainless-steel braided brake lines
  • Stage 1 by Stealth Racing

Typical 2005 boot emblem rotted with white-worm, replaced with later version boot handle assembly.

Rebuilt the front calipers.

Painted the front grille and fog surrounds with Bumper & Trim spray paint Black: Before -> After.

Wet sanded and polished my headlights. Driver's side not done for comparison. Before -> After.

Installed LED interior and number plate kit.

Replaced wheel center caps with OEM items from a VW dealership on eBay.

Welcome - I see you have already started down the slippery slope of work!!! How much was your custom exhaust if you don’t mind me asking and how does it sound? I want to get an exhaust but can’t justify one of the expensive branded ones.

Hi, thanks. The exhaust was £320 including fitting. I'll try get a sound clip later to show you the sound of it. It's basically louder and burbles more, sometimes it pops letting off at high rpm.

Exhaust spec:
  • Standard downpipe
  • Standard cat
  • Stainless steel cat back
    • Resonator delete
    • "Medium" sized backbox
    • Slash cut tips

still looks an alright bit of kit, been tempted by one myself, just didn't want you paying the likes of £700+ for a custom system, if it wasn't, £320 is a good price if it is the eBay one, £70 for fitting is only an hours labour at a garage, as long as it seals and flows okay its a good buy, great work so far, keep it up and i look forward to seeing more updates.

It sounds decent, fitment is awful though as the hangers aren't long enough and the left tip is sagging.

Passenger side hanger, the washer prevents moving it further to the left:

Driver side hanger (Shot from underneath):

Hi mate, how did you resolve the fitment issue? did you speak to the company about it?
Thanks

Oops, just seen this.

Yeah, I resolved it by removing the bloody thing. Getting a refund. Installing a Milltek after work today  :jumping:

Installed my brand new 2.75" Non-Resonated Milltek cat-back last night in the rain.

Went very smoothly besides the connection from the cat pipe to the Milltek via a reducer was leaking. Gonna slap some exhaust sealer of some sort on after work. :happy2:

It's just a slightly louder and definitely deeper sound over stock. No droning, too quiet.

Got a stage 1 tune at Stealth Racing this morning. Found out I had a boost leak yesterday, luckily they had a rev G DV on hand! Gained 28bhp from fixing this alone.

After fixing the split DV.
179 bhp -> 207. 197 ft/lbs -> 232.

After dyno tuning!
207 bhp -> 261. 232 ft/lbs -> 314.

The stock HPFP was very strong holding 130 bar at the rail, so got very healthy results rom the tune.
The car is fast as f'ck now and a whole new driving experience.

Can highly recommend Stealth Racing like many others on this forum, Vince and the team were awesome.

Great stuff, good to see Vince is still producing the goods.

I used to go there in my mk2 days for dyno work.
