Buying advice: High mileage ED30 GTI 150k

Hi folks,

Just joined the forum. Not got huge knowledge on these cars but not clueless 

Ive found a ED30 local thats on the higher miles with 1 prev owner. IT looks as though its done a majority of motorway miles. its circa 150k. The things i know to look out for are;

- Cambelt/waterpump done every 60k or 4years
-Oil pick up pipe at 100k ish
-Rust on rear arch under boot badge & front wings (anywhere else???)
-Is there a chain too ive heard off (can some one clear this up?)
-DSG servicing (im not sure on what needs to be done here....seen mechatronics units can fail & cost big. How do i check the DSG is good)
-Cam follower

150K is nothing, especially for a motorway muncher.

So long as the interior and bodywork are in good nick with no horrific rattles or panel gaps, it's probably worthy of a purchase.

MK5s are not tolerant of previous owner bodges or accident damage......you can spot a buggered about with MK5 from 721 miles away.

Showing my age jere but i remember when people would run a mile from cars near or above 100000k but those days are long gone. As long as its been serviced and looked after 150k isnt anything to baulk at now.

yes theres a chain/tensioner (as well as a belt!) which needs changing at approx 100k , noisy when cold are the first signs
add PCV to your list
upper head decoke
check the air con works , can we simple pressure switch (£) or compressor (£££)
DSG ideally oil change every 40k
tyres / brakes all consumables will all give an idea of the previous owners mindset

Given its an ED30 , many have previous owners on here, so maybe do a search or post the reg up to get any previous history

I know a lot of people (70s, millenials and old folk) who still think cars are worn out/worthless by 100K, and need to be sold on by 60K before 'the big bills' arrive 

I have no idea where that belief comes from, but it certainly seems to be a British thing.  Americans and Europeans expect a car to do at least 200K or it's poor value for money.
