Is it painful having it so close and seeing what has been done to it?

Haha, I can appreciate that! I sold mine for £2500 and made a thumping loss, really should have held onto it but I wanted to move out! Even as a real shed it would be worth a hell of a lot more now!!

Very nice mate, got a good looking frame to start on.
Though I would like to see it being restored to an original look. I had a 72 bug that was Cal look, the wife had a 76 model Superbeetle, and the father in law recently sold his 69 Karmann Cabrio that was restored too.
But really do think that with the oval rears being quite rare that these should be done the way they came out of the factory (of cause that is just my opinion, but could eaily buy a cheap nice model if you just wanted to soup it up for the tracks)

I get what u say mate and it one reason i will never mess with the body as its just how it should be and if this car was all stock when i bought it i would never have messed with it and have driven it every once in a while and taken it to shows, but i was messed with when i bought it so now its getting the best i can give it

Thanks guys  and John its called character
Matt - gorgeous car!
I've always dreamed of owning a black Oval. My dad bought a white 1970 1500 that had it a lamppost - I was 7 at at the time and I was small enoigh to fit in the front bonnet to help align the lock mechanism!
If you know black is the best colour for a duc whay did you buy a white one  :signLOL:

Well the engine is done  just need some new rocker cover(the black covers on the left and right of the heads) as the ratio rockers are too big for the stock rocker covers  :rolleye:

this is just the bottom end of the engine and the rest has now been built up on the bench and the oil cooler on top is just for testing and so is the distributor as its got a massive one going in .Getting there now  :rolleye:
