Mk5 Salvage Suppliers? (whole car) (North West)
« on: January 13, 2018, 09:02:08 am »
So, I'm going to investigate today, but after 183,000 my gear box is sounding like it might be ready for retirement. It's done well.

At that mileage most would scrap the car, but I think it's an opportunity to continue the project :)

Reminds me... I need to do a build thread!

I'm wanting to do a manual to DSG conversion.
I thought it may be easier to buy a salvage car as the donor for the parts I need.

I think eBay will be a bit over priced.

Anyone know of any places that I can buy a whole  scrap DSG 2.0 TDI (BKD) car?

North west if possible.

Failing that, where would be best to source a DSG gear box, may be better to get a reconditioned one for retrofit.

Thanks
Jason

Thanks.
I have my TDI for 8 years now, looked after her and she still looks great.
Serviced by myself every 10000 with quality oil and parts etc.
So, I'm inclined to keep her going!

Motorhog is one of the leading salvage auctions online - just sign up for an account and bid away at bargain scrap cars.

Many occasions you'll pick up a low mileage Cat D with just cosmetic damage.

Very impressive, man. You must have taken very good care of that car to serve you that long without repairs. Actually I think I could help you, I have a friend who works at this scrap yard https://www.scrapi.com/scrap-car-collection, maybe try and contact them they have a huge variety of cars there and are being supplied every day. Call them and place an order for what you need. If they don't have it at the moment they'll call you back the moment  a car matching your needs is brought to them. The price won't bite as it's a scrap yard.
