Next Mod....dilema
« on: January 06, 2009, 01:12:03 pm »

Hello all, third post here so I guess none of you know me, I've done a short intro in New members......

Anyway to the point.

Ive Revo'd my Ed 30 and thats the only mod i have so far.

Having 2 kids and a wife I'm a bit cash strapped at the moment after xmas so have a budget of around £400 for my next mod (I could save to next month but where's the fun in that).

I was considering either a Milltek Cat back(with the turbo back to follow) or Eibach Springs and Anti-lift kit, or a Dbilas intake with heat shield and engine cover.

I'm caught between building up to adding extra power or adding balance to what I have already through improved handling.

All opinions welcome and any suggestions I may not have considered ,

Ta.

Turbo Back or cat back?  I'd definately be interested in buying the full system or cat back(for the right price )

Let me know if youre selling or not and I'll hold fire.

its not really a tough decision as you know you will get it all eventually

Milltek Cat back(with the turbo back to follow) - nice feedback when driving but Id save and get the TBE rather than 2 fitting sessions

Eibach Springs and Anti-lift kit : mmmmmmm definitely
Dbilas intake with heat shield and engine cover : thats not £400 , you could do without the cover

So thats down to

1 :TBE milltek
2 : suspension and intake
 8)

normally Id say suspension but theres a lot of benefit to hearing the ED30, when the std exhaust is soooo quiet.....

Personally I'd go for the suspension upgrade and wait until you can get the TB Milltek as the cat back will make little or no difference to performance but will look pretty  :happy2:

I know where your coming from about the Milltek cat back offering little to no improvement apart from the sound.

Could I have first refusal on your cat back Mat ED30?  Once I have enough posts to PM we can discuss the finer details?

Anyone know if the DBilas will make a difference without the TBE?  Its either it or the suspension then, I'm sort leaning towards the suspension at the mo.

I've so much I want to do to the car, but i like to take my time as it keeps it fresh, so im aiming for one mod a month.......

....

Being able to hear your engine is soooo important when driving any vehicle (IMO) and so it's a priority. But, because you are remapped it's a waste of money not going for the full TBE.

Suspension is often underrated in its importance, and so are brakes on a modded car. Even just AntiRoll Bars make a big difference. But you need to budget at least £1,000 for suspension to do it properly (IMO).

You need to do it all! It's just a matter of which mod and when.

....That's how I've modded my GTI - Slowly and one thing at a time. The advantage of that is that you experience what each mod contributes and also if it introduces a problem. I did most of my hardware performance mods before I remapped.

[I think it's time I contributed my car's story to the Project area]

If you have car insurance that doesnt cover BHP increase, then get the cat back as it wont affect your premium. When your insurance expires, get the down pipe and sports cat to complete the Package.
Catback still sounds ACE without the downpipe  :happy2:

Now then,

a good question indeed.

I think that if you already have 300bhp ish then you need extra control as a priority. Uprated pads, lines, fluid along with uprated springs and dampers would be a good start.

I'd leave the exhaust until you have enough money for the full system TBH.
