Had a little thought!!
« on: January 06, 2009, 02:53:59 pm »
Looked at February's Golf+ magazine and there was a piece about a MKII R36 conversion.

This got me thinking - the conversion is £10k and a MKV R32 about £17k, so £27k and I could have a 338bhp, 300lbft, R36 golf with 4WD

A supercharger conversion and I'm laughing

Any thoughts?
Golf R gone.

^ This little number was regularly cracking out under 3 secs 0-60 (750 bhp) - It's why you see quite a few highly modified Mk1 & 2's on the dragstrip.

She's waiting for ya, Hurdy! : -

It'd surely be cheaper still on a MKV, as it won't need a loom/management/custom mounts/subframe etc etc...? No matter what you fit it to though, it's still a honking great lump of pig iron swinging around on the nose.

I wonder if you can put an S3 motor in a MKV R32??
Sideways yo!

Would rather turbo an R32 than put in the 3.6. The r32 is nose heavy enough as it is.

Tornado red ED30, Revo stage 2, ITG Panel filter, 3" Blueflame turbo back exhaust, leon cupra front brakes, ecs dogbone mount, WALK kit, Eibach sportlines, Satin black Monza II's, VWR/sachs paddle clutch

The 3.6 litre engine is actually lighter by 10 kg then the 3.2 unit luca .

^^^^

Which begs the question whether anyone knows the engine weight difference between the GTI and R32. Also weight difference between GTI and Ed30 - Negligable?

My mistake, didnt know that phil
Would still rather turbo the existing R32 engine or even supercharge it for nice linear power, and you cant beat a screaming supercharger at full chat :driver:

Hmmm, thoughts are pouring into my head now.

R32 - supercharged = lowdown grunt and no turbo lag and cheaper than a Turbo conversion but not generally as reliable as one

R36  =  More n/a power, stock engine and the delicious V6 howl. Uprated rods and pistons would allow a higher redline and even more power. Also would be a "halfway house" to the HPA/HGP twin turbo conversion with 640bhp :innocent:

Edition 30 engined R32 = Could be a winner with a Garrett GT30 or 35 turbo and 500bhp with a lighter front than the R series engines.

Someone stop me from thinking these things - pleeeaaaaase :signLOL: :signIWS:

Golf R gone.
