And here in sa we also get the quattro  system on the audi a3 fsi. Is that not an exact plug and play? time to start searching for parts i think. Your car is gonna be pretty exclusive then.

the quattro system is actually the vw haldex system, quattro in the true sense rather than the brand was used on the longitudinal engined audis

Only thing is, I love the ED30 and don't really want to swap, so I may have to do an "illyun" :signLOL:

2 cars to mod may get a little expensive though, so would I then have to think about something else! :rolleye:

You had to go and mention me didn't you Hurdy... brought me out of incognito mode due to my vanity      I'll now have to submit some long overdue posts regarding the mods on my Ed30 and visits to JKM and pics of the new R32... plus I have bought ANOTHER car after the R32  :signIWS:  So much for financial prudence during the recession.  :driver:

OK, here's a preview of the R32... not very good photo as it was taken with my mobile phone.  Thats my 4 year old daughter in the passenger seat probably thinking 'I've got a nice new clean car to make a lot of mess in' (the Ed30 still hasn't recovered from her vandalism )

Thats incorrect.

Quattro is quattro. Its a Audi developed system known as the Torsion system (Not sure about spelling) and it delivers the same amount of power and torque to all four wheels irrespective of the driving situation.

All Audi's that fall under the quattro brand use the torsion system. It is not the Haldex system. Quattro is permanent 4 wheel drive. Have you ever tried wheel spinning a Audi A4 3.0 litre quattro? Its literally impossible.

Haldex is as far as I understand a bit like traction control. It sends power to the wheels that need power. In effect it is as some consider "all wheel drive". It is not permanent and is not 50/50.

Quattro is a premium brand though. They cant call a car a quattro if its not a quattro.

Let me take a look at a few info sheets I have on the A3's. I may be incorrect.

My apologies...

I did some looking and in essence it seems we are both somewhat confused...

1. The Audi A3 Range uses quattro. Permanent 4 wheel drive according to the specs and pricing on the official Audi webpage:

Select the S3 Quattro in manual and go down to drivetrain.

http://www.audi.co.za/a3/

2. This link however suggests the opposite:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haldex

Scroll down to "vehicles with haldex".

Clearly Audi is fooling its consumer. I sure as hell would not buy a car branded as quattro if it is not. Talk about false advertising

^^ Hmm, the more I think about it, the more I think it won't work..

It may all just bolt on, but will an ED30 ECU know what to do with Hadlex, or all the other new sensors it's found? I'd love to be proved wrong, but there must be a good reason why I've never seen a conversion.

I think I just applied too much simplicity with comparisons to the likes of MKII's running Rallye 4WD, it's not that easy any more.
Sideways yo!

I'm edging back towards a Quaife LSD to try it out before deciding. I may have to nick borrow Neil's car for a quick comparison. :happy2:

Otherwise I'll go 4WD in some form. :rolleye:
