RNS510 B with CAN gateway F
« on: March 20, 2010, 10:52:09 am »
Does anyone know if the F version of the CAN gateway (1K0 907 530F) need to be upgraded to a newer version when installing a RNS510 version B?

I know version C CAN gateways caused power drain issues after installing the RNS, but wondering whethwer F was OK.

The latest one is AD, which is known to work.

Cheers.

As long as the firmware is below 1100 you will not get battery drain,

Thanks mate.
Just as well its still on the original 0900

Any reason why I should upgrade the firmware?
Unit works great as it is so don't fancy upgrading just for the sake of it unless theres real benefit.

there just a few bits and bobs added TBH its not worth the extra cost of the new CAN imo , well unless you want reverse camera

Ive just simultaneously asked this question golf father, I have an F gateway and installed a B RNS510 0n friday night, car is still working fine and been sat for 19 hours. Unit seems very fast and reactive, the only thing thats missing that would be SDHC support.

Darren, looking at the mygti site I cant find details for fw 0900, and the fw 1100 details in this link
http://www.my-gti.com/497/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-1100
are the same as my unit, is this correct?

Is there no chance that fw 1200 isnt compatible with my gateway?  :sad1:

I believe f/w 1200 will work fine and will give yo the SDHC support upto a 32gb card.

I don`t want to shoot Darren down or anything as I`m sure he know`s more than me about these RNS510`s but I can tell you that I HAD firmware 1200 on My Version C and it DID NOT support SDHC Cards, I only tried 1 to be fare and it was only a 4Gb one.

As soon as I upgraded the firmware it worked a treat.

Well I think will give 1200 a go, as SDHC support would be worth it to help fill the hard drive up, as I have a 16Gb card sat doing nothing!  And if as Sparky says (Maverick) has got it wrong then I guess I will have to save for a new gateway and go for a 26xx firmware.  Cheers for all the advice guys  :notworthy:

Richn83

I have updated my firmware from 1200 which didn`t seem to like the SDHC card to the latest which works great.

I`m not sure what Gateway I have fitted BUT touch wood I`ve not had any battery drain problems as of yet and my car is 99% of the time a weekend use car only....

Darren, Craig,

Thanks both for the info, I have two discs ready with 1100 and 1200 firmware burnt, will give it a go and see, after some extra searching looks like HW03 units still cant do SDHC on 1200fw which is unfortunately what mine is (comments on my-gti), but will update once ive had a play   :happy2:

And then might have to be a new CAN £60-£70 makes it alot better.

Darren thought I would slip in a thank you for these posts and the new Maps  :notworthy:
