Upgrading rear brakes to R32s
« on: November 03, 2020, 10:19:07 pm »
Trying to source parts and seen these calipers on Ebay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-NEW-REAR-BRAKE-CALIPER-LH-RH-VW-GOLF-MK5-R32-AUDI-A3-S3-TT-EOS-8J-QUATTRO-3-2/333686351448?fits=Model%3AGolf%7CCars+Type%3A3.2+R32+4motion%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+V&epid=249584437&hash=item4db141a658:g:CokAAOSwUlxfN80e
Reckon they would be ok? Will be painting whatever I get red anyway.

Or any others and links would be great thanks.

You'll need to factor in buying caliper carriers if you go with these.

The GTI rear carriers are the same as R32/S3 I thought......just the discs wider due to being vented hence the new calipers needed .

The hose and pads are also compatible to my knowledge, but could be wrong

THIS IS IF you are fitting to a GTI that is

Ended up ordering of brakeparts.co.uk in the end.
looking on Autodoc the hoses are the same.
I just need to decide what pads to get now, standard or 'performance'?
I'm getting the mk7r brakes fitted at the same time.
Any suggestions on what to get?
I've got EBC green on the standard brakes at the mo which are an improvement

I don't think you need spicy pads - Golf R front calipers pads are nearly double the size of standard Gti ones.
This is Standard R v Standard Gti Brembo's:

The spring clips are different to the normal gti ones as they have a wider gap to allow for the vented disc even though the pads are the same so I believe.  Andrew Chappel ran into this problem in volkswagen driver mag when he upgraded hie ed30 to r32 brakes, in the end he sourced ones for the 3.2 quattro A3 to get the correct ones, something to bear in mind.

Lost me with the spring clips?

Cheers LC5F, the mk7r brakes have the oe TWR pads in at the mo so I'll get the same for the r32s I guess.

Part MBA1679

They clip onto the carriers and the pads slide on them.

Got ya, yes they came with the clipers. Cheers.
Do the rear pads have wear sensors on them, I can't remember as mate fitted them last time?
