I have a dead gti
Guv:
First of all im new so just like to say hi .
I have just rebuilt a damaged 2005 golf gti that had a front end crash . now shes sat there looking all nice and shiney ive got a big problem which is worrying me .
Went to start her up yesterday and nothing :( all i get is the click it tryed to start once and nothing else totaly dead . the starter motor started to get warm and start to smell bad so stopped yesterday so today took the starter motor off gave it a lil service fitted it back and the same AGAIN by this point getting annoyed so got the tapping stick out and tryed the tapping the starter motor trick and nope nothing apart from a lil bit of smoke from the starter motor :(
so then tryed the rocking the car in gear trick to see if the belt moved while doing it and it didnt budge .
now im stuck for ideas the only other thing im going to try tomorrow is taking the starter motor off again and rocking the car in gear that way to see if its the start motor sticking .
this car hasnt been started in a year and the engine wasnt damaged or hit in the crash . so if any one can think of any thing or halp in any way id be very greatfull . thanks
QD MBE:
Starter or engine is seized.
:sad1:

thats what im hoping fingers crossed nice and cheap fix LOL

if the cars been sitting its entirely possible the rings are rusted to the cylinders.
you may consider pulling the plugs out and pouring something in there to loosen it for a few days first, then trying to get the cylinders move by rocking car with engine in gear.
you want to be pretty sure its ok before attempting a 'proper' start :happy2:
you should also actuate the clutch while rocking the car in gear to confirm the gearbox isnt the problem (rather then engine)
Guv:
you have just reminded me saying gearbox . my clutch master cylinder is broken do you think this could lock every thing up ?
