Binding brakes causing judder under acceleration?

Hi

I've had an ongoing issue with juddering/stuttering when under acceleration and car is cold (most noticeable in 4th, 5th, 6th gear). I've recently discovered that the rear brakes are binding quite badly. Is there any way that this extra 'drag' could be causing the car to judder when it's cold as it's putting the engine under more stress in the higher gears?
