Superchips stage 2+ for K03
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:27:00 am »
Do they do one? are they any good?

Nothing on their website, yet seems to be posts from people who have them fitted vrs @ amd?? But he didn't seem to get on well with their map.

I spoke to a tuner yesterday and he recommended Revo, but thing is I have a stage 1 Superchip and TBE and am getting an ITG and HPFP next week and want to go stage 2+ thing is SC will be <much> cheaper than revo (£50 for stage 1 -> stage 2, so presume similar for stage 2+ if it exists) but everyone seems to recommend revo, yet this will be £600 according to their website which is so much more.

Anyone with any experience of SC stage 2+ please and recommendations. Thanks  John

i had superchips stage 1, 2 and 2+ on my vRS and with the exception of stage 1, i wasnt impressed.  they seem to be good on the k04, but i know of quite a few guys whos cars witj K03 cars which have underperformed and been erratic in its delivery(thats from guys on SCN, briskoda and here and personal experience)

i changed to shark performance(which can be had with a handheld unit just like bluefin) after being pretty much set on changng to REVO, and it was much better in delivery and drivability than the
bluefin was.

my review is here,

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,9088.0.html

plus if you want to read reviews have a look on briskoda in his subforum  or in the octy 2 forum
http://briskoda.net/forums/forum/154-shark-performance/

an added bonus that im not sure if any other tuning companies can do, is he can deactivate something in the ECU which will allow you to allow you to left foot brake without the ecu cutting in and you will get that for free i think as well

Agree with Sy - got identical results with stage2+ Superchips map compared to stage2 on JKM's dyno.

Same dilemma as you now - is it worth me forking out a load of money to see how much better Revo/Shark is over my current setup? Probably not.

However... I'd say for the £50 upgrade from stage 1 it's a bit of a bargain given I still got 251 bhp. Just don't expect anything magical. Will be a considerable jump from your stage 1 though  :happy2:

Thanks guys, very informative. Appreciate the info. Just pondering the cost, can prob get £200 for my SC bluefin...? so only £350 to change - Ouch - (after taking into account the £50 for a stage II BF map.

Cheers again

John

Not that simple unfortunately - you'd need to get the Bluefin reset by Superchips before you sell it as it's locked to your ECU, otherwise it's not worth a great deal. Can't remember what this will set you back but it's in the region of £250 ish.

about three weeks - that is why I am not very keen on going to another chip provider, surely I can get it unlocked for free? Don't feel like paying them another £200, especially since i forked out £400 three weeks ago and now find it is not up to much for upgrades

the stage 2+ bluefin had much better delivery than the stage 2  bluefin in my experience.  i agree with timmy though if your plans arnt to big, the bluefin will very likely be more than enough for you. plus the customer service is excellent.(you get free HP if you  use their rolling road as well )

i changed because of th plans for my car and the amount of track work i get up to.  selling up nowe anyway so i would have been better off staying tbh

To be fair, you forked out for stage 1 - and it's generally accepted to be quite good.

If they unlock it for free, they're basically giving away a free re-map if you think about it, so unlikely this will happen. Can always ask though...

Why not try the £50 upgrade and decide if the extra few HP is worth shelling out for after living with it for a while?

Hi Sy,

Will prob go with the SC stage 2+ then see how I get on, I have another car for track work   just want to be able to have about 400nm (300lbft) and ~ 270HP for fast road work, mental overtaking and blasting up our costwold hills. Did you have to request the stage 2+ or did AMD sort it all for you? Is the stage 2+ an upload to the handset job or special via the dealer?? Researching the forums, it does seem that the stage 2+ "aggresive" map from SC that at least one person has had installed delivered these figures, but the install was at a dealer and appeared to be a special map. def don't want the std stage 2 map as this is clearly as waste of time.

Also want real numbers not fantasy made up numbers after 70hp wheel loss added back in, and don't want the grand canyon in the middle of the torque and HP curves - not asking for much am I ???

Thanks again for your help

John

Yeh I know my mistake, I didn't do enough research, I have an Ed30 as well which has a stage 1 SC chip on that the misses has taken off me, (about 300HP and 300 lbft) leaving me with her GTI K03 (we love golf GTI's) the point about getting the SC chip was not to have stage 1 (hence why only had it three weeks) but as a platform to get to the same power as the stage 1 Ed30. Got the chip as first step, then have been building up the parts from here and fleabay, now have full miltek TBE and wating for CAI (ITG) and HPFP to arrive next week, IF the SC will deliver what I want great (and i thought it would when i bought it, for £400 plus £50 ipgrade) then i am happy chappy, have always been pleased with their service and product in the past, but never gone for hardware mods before.

Think the answer is to say to SC I want to upgrade to aggressive stage 2+ specifically for HPFP, to deliver these numbers, if they say no, ask for my money back under the trial (even though i am two weeks two late) will at least test their famous customer service.

You're a lucky chap with an ED30 and a GTI in the household :)

300bhp you're never going to get without bolting a K04 turbo on - you could distract your wife and nick hers from the ED30  :driver:

I'm sure SC will provide you with the HPFP specific stage2+ file as long as you pay the extra £50 - there's no reason why they shoudn't.

You're not going to get anywhere near the numbers you're looking for though - mine is on the low side, but I've basically got the same hardware as you (plus an irrelevant S3 intercooler) and I'm at 250bhp.

Remember however that it's not all about the numbers...!

Cheers Timmy, I am a very old git who has been working very hard for a very long time.........

The way forward is to pay my £50 get the most aggressive stage 2+ map i can off them try it, see how it drives, if its good  and if not  :sad1: and most importantly keep away from any rolling road that can only make me feel sad (if bad numbers) or if good numbers want to check them on every other rolling road to make sure I am not being cheated (been there done that) Quick question, did you get your stage 2+ via pc download or any a dealer who also ran rolling road tuning as Sy did at AMD?

Thanks again

John

Sounds like a good plan.

I paid the extra £50 direct through the website if memory serves (there's an option there to select stage 2 @ £50) then just had a series of maps sent through from SC via email.

Quick load onto the Bluefin handset and you're good to go. The 20 minutes it takes to load onto the car seems to last for hours too :)

i had the stage 2 +map  downloaded on my handset already. all AMD did was install the HPFP and put it on the RR. ignore those figures as well, as they are pretty micky mouse IMO.  Bens stage 2 Shark performance car (with no HPFP upgrade) was quicker than mine despite the supposabely 27Hp deficit.

to be fair though for 50 sheets the difference over the stage 1 makes the stage 2+ bluefin worth it, just dont expect 270Hp 300Ibft on a dyno dynamics rolling road. timmys figures seem about right for what i would have had in ine as well. he had the same experience with bens stage 2 as well.  Also dont try to keep up with the revo guys as well as i failed at that as well. that is the reason i ended up changing.

the off putting thing for me was when the guys at superchips is when i asked about the figures in comparison to revo stage 2+ they tried to tell me that any more than 300ibft and the cam shafts were at a risk of shearing,
