Oil sump and oil light
« on: November 26, 2020, 07:40:38 pm »
Hi all,
So i had an oil sump clean, pick up pipe replacement and new strainer and oil filter. All was good for a couple of weeks then had the dreaded stop engine and red oil warning light on. I turned off immediately and took car back to garage and strainer was blocked with crap. Done another oil flush ans refilled with fresh oil.Everything back to normal but what i wanted to ask is if its a common problem that will once you clean sump and that it pushes all the sh*t out and it needs a couple of flushes. Im crapping myself now that every time i take it out that more crap is ginna come out and block strainer again and oil light comes on again.

Happened to me also.

The increased oil flow/pressure after the first change/clean must have moved more crap.

It did happen a third time for me but the pan and pickup were fine .  The oil channels in the cam actuator cover were blocked this time and needed a compressor to blow them clear. The other oil lines were done as a precaution too.  There is also a small wire gauze/filter that needed to be cleaned in the actuator cover......engine has been fine ever since....three years now

So, maybe better to not flush the engine?

Worst thing possible an engine flush additive.

Worst thing possible an engine flush additive.

Worse still is neglected regular oil changes, creating the sludge.

Anyone worked out if this sludge is long life oil going bad or car service settings not changed from long life, but short life oil used?

Personally, I like engine flush great for unblocking gummed up hydraulic lifters, I use it every other oil change.
Very aware of the issues the OP experienced, but I have been lucky with every new to me car tI have used it on... mind you I am poring it in with one hand and fingers crossed with the other!
