Help!!

Ok so im literally at the end of my tether with my gti! Ive had a stage 1 remap ages ago and all was fine. I had a turbo back custom exhaust fitted and all was fine. I then had an oil sump clean clean and new pick up pipe and new strainer. All seemed fine then driving on the motorway i was druving about 70 mph and floored it and the low oil warning light came up with stop engine immediately which i did. Took it back to garage and they flushed out oil with new oil and checked strainer and pick up pipe took it for test drive and all seemed good. I drove it for a week no problems. Took it out today and drove along motorway all fine so drove on motorway nd was cruising at 70mph and floored it again and same thing happened oil pressure light came up with stop engine immediately!!! Got it recovered and now sitting on my drive and now iys sitting on my drive. Please help as i have no idea whats causing this!!

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Its a job which is on the to do list with my own car.

Is there any way that you can test the related electrical parts? sensor etc?
New oil of the correct grade?
If the fault is still present its a good time to check the actual oil pressure to make sure its within spec or reading low.
Then I suppose its back to taking it apart again :(

Perhaps some sludge/deposits have been dislodged by the new improved flow, I don't suppose you would know if it was really dirty before? and probably got nothing to compare it to anyway.

seems some precautionary maintenance has caused you a load of trouble, hope you get it sorted

Thanks mate and appreciate your reply. Going to have another look tomorrow. Seems that it runs fine normally but as soon as you put your foot down and the engine really needs to work tje oil isnt getting through. Just hoping its nothing major.

Yeah good point. Twice this has happened since we got that work done.

Have a search for Bobby_fodge  posts on here, he had oil pressure issues that was found to be balance shaft fault

His issues were at low rpm and apparently down to a knackered oil pump (seized balance shafts). 

At higher rpms where the oil pressure should be around 3-4 bar, sounds like a different problem to me.

First step is to verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge. You can tee-off the dash gauge sender's M10x1 port on the oil filter housing.  Should be more than 1 bar at hot idle, around 2.5 bar at 2000rpm and increasing with rpm from there. Cold pressures will be a lot higher.  Usually 2 bar at idle and 3-4 bar at 2000rpm.

If the mechanical gauge verifies the complaint, it's not the pressure sender and could either be a worn engine (excessive bearing play), blockage in the pickup, or a knackered pump.  Dropping the sump should reveal the latter 2.  Check for over application of silicon ending up in the strainer (very common) and if not that, detach the oil pump chain and spin the left sprocket by hand to see if the balance shafts turn or not. If they do, it's not the pump.

Remember to phase the balance shafts to TDC before refitting the chain if performing that check.

Another thing to check is the pick-up pipe O ring wasn't pinched during reassembly. Easily done as it's a tight MOFO!  Always use a new O ring with silicon grease to reduce that risk.

If all looks good there, the pressure is bleeding off somewhere.  Any visible leaks?  Any white smoke (not normal winter steam)?
