First mk5 GTi
« on: October 04, 2020, 04:48:13 pm »
Hi everyone. I’m new here!!
Just flicking through some of the threads and I’m definitely in the right place!!

Just spent about 3 weeks searching for a decent MK5. Ended up finding one in Birmingham (I’m in Southampton)
She’s got
low owners (3)
Full detailed service history
Long MoT with no advisories
Low mileage at only 80k
4 brand new branded tyres
Cambelt and water pump has just been done (Friday just gone)
Tartan cloth (was a must)
Manual (was a must)
A few things I know I’ve got to look out for. Thermostat, can follower and a couple of others (thanks to volkswagen wizard on YouTube)
I can’t wait to take delivery (delivery for only £160!! It would have cost me petrol and petrol for my friend plus 4/5 hours round trip)

I’m so excited. Should be arranging delivery for Tuesday/Wednesday this week.

So it got delivered.
Broke down on the way. Coil pack apparently.
Horrible knocking (likely steering rack)
Running lumpy already.
It’s going back this weekend.

Welcome. I’ve always have a soft spot for Candy White as that was my first MK5 GTI. Always wanted to get back into one but ended up with Shadow Blue (although I always keep my eyes open for a Candy White ED30 bit can’t justify an upgrade or change). Other watch out as well as what you have noted is the oil pick up pipe (still outstanding for me to do)

Did you find another one? I'm in Gosport and bought one on Monday
