Are all mk5's like this too. Lots of non body coloured bits.
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:54:33 pm »
Our mk6 has arrived.  Due to dealer problems etc (very long story and they seem to have had it 18 days without telling me). i have inspected it far more than i ever did our mk5.

Looking at a 2008 mk5 metallic grey R32 and a mk5 GTI at my local dealer it seems some of what i spotted on our mk6 maybe VW standard they don't seem quite as as bad as mine though :surprised:

Is the paint on your mk5 the same as my mk6?
If so and you have a camera at hand could you let me see some photos to put my mind at ease?

Thank you
Geoff.
 :driver:

A-pillar blue paint only goes halfway to the edge of the wing edge, and also not all way down the apillar.

Back of the front wings in the door jam area. Note: the blue colour is mainly reflections

Front wheel arches behind and in the strut turret

Boot floor (interior), why are some of my hooks blue and some grey makes no sense.
Note the sound damping pads and grommits are black were other cars i have seen there coloured
.

Under the back of the car. Around the boot area, note the car only has 100 miles on in 99% dry conditions

Rear wheel arches (i think i spot a hint of blue overspray   )

Apart from the edge of the front wing, and the point where it meets the A pillar, I can't see anything wrong with it?

Have a look at the paintwork of other similar age and model cars to see the paintjob on them and compare.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I just did this today.

I had a look at a couple of red golfs today and they did suffer aliitle bit in the apillar/wing area but not as much as other colours.
Also two white GTIs did too but its much harder to spot.
The metallic black seemed the worse. Worse than mine!
I got too see two blues the same colour as mine both were better in these areas but still not great.
I got to see a graphite blue and it was worse than mine  :surprised:
A dark grey one had only very very slight little bit there nothing much really.
I also got to see quite a few mk5's and those too suffer the a-pillar problem in varied degrees.
It seems a very common thing for the a-pillar/wing join  :surprised:
Some others that i got too see seemed ok but this maybe because of very small panel gaps in this area so they may have been ok or the tiny panel gap just masked it.

On the subject of the rear of the front wing panel in the door area. As the dealers were shut i was looking through panel gaps only
The two red ones were pink in this area in places on the ribbed section.
The two blacks were yellowish in these places.
The grey seemed ok.
The two shadow blues were similar to mine from what i could see grey on the ribbed bits and a bit grey round that area.
The graphite blue looked ok.
The mk5's seemed ok in this area.

The shocking thing was seeing all the mk5's even back too 2005 with similar issues in the a-pillar area some of the blue ones make mine look like nothing!

Why has no one with a mk5 pointed this out before im wondering?

why is the underside of the car white ??? !  so if i order a golf R for £36k in rising blue it will be a white car with a quick blue re spray ? its bad enough that audi dont clear coat the underside of the boot and bonnet but that is taking the piss  :surprised:

The white is the base coat all cars get this, then they spray the colour. They only paint what they need too. Not everyone is like us lot picking over every last detail of the car and washing it twice a week. They do enough to cover the paint warranty.  :happy2:

These may show better what im looking at on the photos

This photo is of the passenger side its much better than the drivers side!

rear of front wing. I noticed this when the sun court it when i was getting out of the car!

I cannot understand how after seeing all the mk5's the other day with similar paint issues on the edges of the top of the front wing how no one has ever pointed this out before.
I just find it astounding and shocking that with all the mk5s about and all the forums to do with VWs i have been on over the years that no one has ever pointed this out before for such a obvious paint thing :surprised:

But thats my point its not just the mk6 the mark5 suffers just as much with the a-pillar/wing area.

In the past 5 years i have not seen anyone point it out though.

But every mk5 i looked at, at two different dealers i went too (and thats alot of mk5's) had this wing/a-pillar problem to some degree!
