Mk5 gateway problem..
« on: December 05, 2020, 07:54:59 pm »
Hello all,

I have a 2008 golf 1.4 gt.

Bought it as a non runner, gateway ecu had got water in it and has fried it, locked the whole car out, no diagnostics at all.

Bought a secondhand replacement with the same code, car now works, starts and runs fine.

Trouble is I’m having some problems coding it (vagcom) I have various issues but main ones are,

fuel low warning light On dash, even tho it’s half a tank of fuel (I physically checked this)
Tpms light on, I’m assuming the car doesn’t have this at this age,
Steering wheel light.. (I’m hoping this will go off when I drive it, lock to lock doesn’t work)

I’ve been through the coding helper and checked through everything but it’s not working..

Help...

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Did you replace the GW from underneath or from above (under the plastic cover)?  If the latter, I would check the rubber seal as GWs only get wet when that cover is compromised. The cover is under the driver's side wiper linkage, assuming a 1.4 GT shares the GTI's basic layout.

Providing the replacement GW isn't older than the original one, recoding it should be straight forward.  Plenty of info on Google.
