Bulbs

Hi I'm in two minds of buying some Blueish h7 bulbs. My mInd is torn between philips blue vision and the orsam cool blues.
Does any one know which are brighter, bluer, had past experiance etc. Does anyone have any pictures or know where to find some?

Why not buy a Xenon Conversion kit?

Will cost Circa £75 from Hids-Direct and my car just passed its MOT with a set in.

I tried both Phillips and Osram and imho they didn't look blue at all. They just made the light look slightly whiter in my opinion.

They don't "mimmick" xenons in my experience and are a waste of money. You would be better off with Osram Nightbreakers or Phillips extreme.

Those HID kits are just annoying and I hate them.

They look no different to OEM xenons

The only time they do is when people spec stupid colour temps (8000k and above) thinking it looks good but actually they are asking for the police to take notice and are reducing the light output.

I have a 50w 6000k kit in mine and it looks no different to any OEM xenon headlight.

Do you know which ones are street legal, and won't be mucked about by the ecu on a mkv?

Plus carl do you have any pics of you hids and/or the orsam and philips (when you had em on, also how bright were they?).

Hi mate if you want brighter light by all means go for the extreme power or nightbreakers but the light colour is almost exactly the same as OEM and rather disapointing  . Like i said though the light beam streatches much further.
I have fitted the nightbreakers in the Fogs, Main beam, and dipped and the bluevision in the Sidelights the bluevision are a much better colour, and im currently removing the nightbreakers in the dipped headlights in favour for the bluevision as the colour of light is much crisper. My advice would be to you, if you just want to buy bulbs and not convert to xenon ect ect would be

1) fogs leave oem - as the whiter the light, the harder it is to see in foggy condions - My bulbs are actually yellow
2) sidelights - Bluevision (look better)
3) dipped - Bluevision        ""     ""    
4) Main beam - Nightbreakers or extreme power - so that extra light is available when needed.

The Xenon kit is easy to fit (i am talking for a Skoda Octavia) not sure what is involved for a gti but everything is included in the kit to mount it where ever you want (im talking the ballast etc) if you cant get it inside the light unit like i can on mine.

Thats is the same kit i have in my octavia and works perfectly.

I just took a couple of pics to show what it looks like. Not very good as done with phone but gives you the idea.

They are street legal and mine passed it's MOT with those in. The light output is fantastic and i have never ever been flashed by oncomers as they are correctly aligned etc.

Do you have projector or reflector style lights? If you have reflector then stick to normal bulbs as the light pattern is massively distorted.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to taking the photos, much appreciated.
Secondly, the car looks ace! Love the colour.
Finally, you took that on your PHONE! The quality is incredible! lol

Few questions; How long have you had them, how do they compare to the factory fitted xenons, how much tampering with the car is required e.g. removing bumper etc?

I don’t want to be annoying but do you have any photos in the dark.

Here is the front of my car (have hellas xenon look housing, like the r32's or golfs with xenon). I have bulbs at colour temperature 6500 atm, they look the part but are as bright as matchsticks!

I have Hellas Xenon look head lamps, and am thinking of putting a HID kit in there. What would people recommend?



Have been shown HIDS-Direct MK5 Golf Kit  on another thread which look good and well priced, just want to know the options open to me

Oem Xenons are around the 4300k mark! ;)

A lot of newer cars from the likes of BMW,Audi,VW,Mercedes etc are starting to use 5000k Bulbs as people want a more blueish look.

4300k are quite white which is why i say never go over 6000k.

Depending on what kit you get depends on wether you should use 4300,5000 or 6000k

If you get a 35w Kit (from the likes of Hids4U.co.uk) then get either 4300 or 5000k

If you get the one i listed from Hids-Direct then get either 5000k or Max 6000k

Hids-Direct are cheaper and (i used to have a 35w kit from Hids4U before going to a 50w Kit) the quality is fantastic.

I have used a conversion kit now for nearly 2 years. I drive with my lights on all the time and they have never missed a beat.

Hids-Direct customer service is fantastic aswell. The first batch they sent me the Passenger side light kept flickering. They sent me a new kit which arrived the next day. They didn't even wait for me to send the old one back which most companies would.

The reason i went to 50w is for the extra light output and the claimed twice as bright as normal xenons if definately true.

I haven't got any pics of the osram nightbreakers or phillips extreme but here are some pics of the Xenons at night. Note this is from the 35w HIDS4U kit not the Hids Direct 50w kit. If i get time later i will take a couple of pics of the 50w Kit in the dark.

They look top dollar, if you could get some of the 55w that would be sweet. Do you know if these bulbs a uv protected?
