Cam chain bolt drilling!
« on: December 08, 2020, 12:31:46 pm »
Hi folks looking for some tips.

Need to drill the cam adjuster bolt out absolute nightmare. I will cover the oil feed holes prior to drilling however has anybody else done this with success and no dramas?

What method did you use and what size/type of drill bits also...cobalt im assuming?

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Cheers

Yeah cobalt drills and just work up in size gradually.  If you drill dead centre, you should have no issues.

If you cheese it up completely, budget for a new a VVT adjuster.  £400ish from VW, or a chance a £100 Chinesium one from ebay.

Nice one, I did this on mine too, once I got up to a 10mm hole I gave it a tap with an impact driver and it came straight out,

That polydrive bolt is an absolute w@nk stain.  Shame on VW.  It rounds out if you just look at it the wrong way

Yeah it was a bit of a pain but more so that I done it on the drive which I wouldn't have done normally...cheers lockdown.

Done an S3's tensioner and chain last year on my mates and it was just lucky that it came off much more easily than mine did this time. @Pudding you are 100% correct a complete dickhead bolt lol.
