Airbag Fault **HELP**
« Reply #31 on: January 31, 2018, 04:04:06 pm »
Hi,
My Mk5 has developed an airbag fault.
I had the code cleared at the garage but it came back after 2 weeks.
It’s showing as the passenger side door Crash airbag sensor.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Can I buy a 2nd hand sensor? Does anyone know the part number for them?
Any help would be appreciated.

Coolant temp sensor or sensors?
« Reply #32 on: February 02, 2018, 05:23:29 pm »
Hi guys, does anyone know if there are two coolant temp sensors? If so does anyone know the part numbers? My local vw dealer are saying they don’t know if there is one or two sensors and there is only one listed on the system. Car is a 2005 mk5 gti, thanks 👍

MK5 GTi - Candy White 5 Door (DSG) - lots of extras
« Reply #33 on: February 11, 2018, 12:30:30 am »
Hi All

Thought i would test the waters - I've had some interest in my car before and i wasn't considering selling but thought id see if i had any genuine interest i might be tempted to sell and move to something else.

For Sale is my Candy White Mk5 Golf GTi - 5 door and DSG. I've had nearly 40k miles in this car and can say its the best car I've had and still brings a smile to my face when i drive it.

Im not sure how to upload pictures of it - but i have a build thread on my profile (not updated pics as I've done more to the car since but since photo bucket is no longer used I'm not sure how to load photos on) - images can be sent via email/whatsapp.

Please see listed spec of the car below:

Candy white mk5 gti 5 door DSG
136k miles
1 former keeper
Full VW service history
Cambet last changed at VW (in the last two years) (approx 120k)

Vredestein ultrac sessanta tyres fitted all round 4-5mm left on all tyres

Genuine MK7 Red GTi rear badge
GFB DV+
ECS tuning dogbone insert
Latest PCV revision fitted
New Evap Cannister fitted (10/2/18)
Pre cat removal on downpipe
Always run on Tesco momentum 99 Ron fuel in my ownership

Bad Points - as expected with a car this age/miles - there is some stone chips on the bonnet which I've tried to touch in with a genuine VW touch up pen. There is a pin dent on the passenger side rear arch and a few age related marks here and there.

Mechanically the car is sound and the DSG gearbox pulls fine - its not a car that has been thrashed about.

I will be getting the car serviced at VW next month - so this will be included should anyone be interested.

Im not desperate to sell the car - but if i get any one is seriously interested, I can be tempted.

Any questions feel free to give me a shout.

Thanks

Rough idle
« Reply #35 on: February 19, 2018, 05:25:26 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have a 2005 gti that has a rough idle. The rev counter doesn’t move at all, it sits at the same revs but it feels like it’s misfiring. Seems to get worse once the engine is warm. I have replaced coil packs, spark plugs, dv, n205 valve, cam follower, oil and filter, oil pick up pipe, air filter, main thermostat, in line thermostat and the coolant temp sensor. I know some of them shouldn’t cause a rough idle but they needed replacing anyway. The car drives sweet as a nut, pulls fine through every gear never stutters, misfires it’s lovely. It’s just sat on idle it is horrible it shakes the car slightly and also if you lift the bonnet and look at the engine you can see it judder every now and again like it’s misfiring, if I pull the dipstick out while it’s running it idle’s even worse so I don’t think it’s the pcv. I have no codes stored on the ecu now either. I did have a p000a code but the n205 valve seems to have cured that problem. The only thing I can think of is carbon build up on the intake valves because they don’t have any fuel going over them to keep them clean. Is there anything else I have missed before I set about cleaning the valves ? Any help would be appreciated. I’m trying to get the car remap ready. This is my last little issue now. Thanks 🤓

2006 Mk5 GTi 3 Door - United Grey, Manual, 80k Miles
£4900.00
Single Image
    Location: Balloch, West Dunbartonshire
    Collection Only

    Hi,

    ***PHOTOS WILL BE UPLOADED TOMORROW***

The time has come for me to sell my beloved completely standard GTi.  It is a petrol, manual, 3 door car with 80,000 miles on the clock in great condition.  The MOT is due in August 2018.  I am the cars 4th owner.

I have received a company car with my new job, so the Golf will sit not getting used, which I don't think is fair.  I have owned this car for 3.5 years (putting 14,000 miles on it) and have never had any problems with it at all.  It took me 8 months to find this car and it was worth waiting for it.  The previous owner was also a Golf enthusiast and was only selling the car to upgrade at the time to a Mk6 GTi.  The car comes with FSH, I also had the oil and oil filter changed yesterday for the cars new owner.

The car comes in united grey with cloth interior (no bolster damage) and 18" Monza alloys.  It also comes with factory fitted Xenon headlights and highline clocks.  The only modifications done to this car are that the previous owner put GTi seat inserts in the car as many forum members have done, also I took out the standard radio and installed a RCD510 and a new CANBus to stop battery drain.

I changed the cam follower around 8,000 miles ago, the PCV 4 months ago, and the diverter valve has been checked throughout my ownership and is in perfect working order.  I changed the front discs and pads on the car around 1500 miles ago so these are near enough new.

The car is cleaned religiously every weekend (as long as weather is ok), and is regularly polished and waxed to keep it in the best condition possible.  The engine bay is also cleaned and dressed a couple of times a year to keep it looking as new.  There is no rust or dents etc to the bodywork.

    Bad points:

The alloys wheels could do with a refurb.  These were previously powder coated in a shadow chrome type finish, however 2 are scuffed and all have started to bubble slightly around the valve (been told this is normal after a few years).  Would cost £200 to have these refurbed.

The two front wings are bubbling slightly.  I have tried to have these repaired under warranty however VW said they had been previously painted and the paint depth is too deep to claim under warranty.  Two new wings can be bought pre painted in united grey for £200 from eBay.  The seller was recommended to me by a fellow forum member.  I had planned to have the wings changed and alloys refurbed in April/May once all the grit/salt was off the roads.

Both front tyres will soon need replaced as they are approaching the legal limit.

Other than these points the car is in excellent condition and really has been looked after by me, it will make a great car for its new owner.

I have probably forgot some details.  If you need any more information just either reply to this advert or sent me PM.  Looking for £4900 ovno.

    Maplins in Administration!
    « Reply #38 on: March 21, 2018, 10:24:37 am »
Didn't hear this on the news, but apparently it was announced the same day as Toys R Us. Went to my local store in Bournemouth and was surprised to see the notices in the window. Still trading at the moment, with some minor discounting, which probably brings their prices down to what you can find elsewhere. Spent £50 on LED bulbs as I've been meaning to upgrade from halogens for a while.  Tried one out in the kitchen, and when I put the halogen light back in, it had blown - that's  halogen for you (wanted to do all 8 when I had more time, and just the one looked odd on its own, doh!)

I always found Maplins quite expensive, but it was an interesting place to look around, while wifey went clothes shopping (It's in the main shopping area in Bournemouth, but some are on industrial estates etc). Another one bites the dust! My kids loved Toys R Us, back in the day as well. :sad1:

    Wheel help
    « Reply #39 on: April 02, 2018, 02:22:03 pm »
Hello I’m totally clueless when it comes to wheels, but I curbed my monzas and I’m not keen on them anyway,so looking into bbs ch wheels.
    I understand my
    monzas are 18x7.5 et 51
But the ones I’m looking at are 18x8 et 40,
The bit I don’t get is all the online guides say they will poke 17mm which I can maybe get away with on the rear as I wanted to space my monzas, but might be tight up front,
the other bit I’m really confused at is the standerd eddy wheels are 18x8 et 51 so won’t that poke 11mm more than the ones I’m looking at.
Will I be ok with 18x8 et40 I just want a Oem look

    MIDLANDS VW- CANNOCK
    « Reply #40 on: April 06, 2018, 08:20:45 am »
Just a quick review of Midlands VW in Cannock. Had my timing chain and tensioner changed. Some other garages wouldn't do it without having adjuster done as well but funds and need wouldn't stretch to that. They said it was preferable but they would do it for £350, which was fine. It was sounding like a diesel and had done 120k miles so I thought I would get it changed as a precaution. Took 3 hours and it sounds great now. No diesel noise so very happy.
Cam belt and water pump next...... has been changed twice, with the last being in 2014  at 73k miles so I guess nearly 50k miles later is probably due.
Very knowledgeable guys and travelled 50 miles to get to them. Would do that again definitely. Thumbs up for them.
On a side note - got a previous shape Seat Ibiza 1.0 3cyl 75hp loan car from them. Is this the engine magazines rave about? Awful, sounded like a lawnmower!

RNS 510 asking for code / CAN gateway issue
    « Reply #42 on: April 23, 2018, 10:08:25 am »
Having a really annoying problem with the rns510 in the wifes Mk2 Leon(08) and it’s starting to drive me crazy. It was all working fine up until recently when problems started to appear. First up, we started noticing that if it was left turned on when we exited the car - upon return it wouldn’t come on automatically with the key in the ignition like it used to. When turned on it connects to the bluetooth module and then asks for the code. Sometimes however it does come straight on and will work fine. Other times it will work and ask for the code mid journey. The volume control buttons on the msfw have recently stopped working also which is strange.

First off I reset all the settings and rebooted it which made no difference so decided to scan it for faults and got the following:

00469 Data bus Display / Infotainment in single wire enterprise

01300 Control Module for Navigation with CD-Rom (J401)

    01304 Radio

So after searching the internet it looked like the 00469 suggests that one of the CAN wires could have become disconnected. Removed the stereo yesterday and no sign of broken wires. Don’t suppose anyone has any ideas? Is it likely a broken wire elsewhere?

Someone broke into the car about 4 years ago and the stereo was replaced by the insurance and has worked fine up until now. From looking at the part number I think it’s a version L?

Part number 1K0920970 so a lot easier to programmable compared to the later 973 and 974 versions.
