Passenger door doesn't always unlock...
« on: February 21, 2021, 03:21:46 pm »
Hi guys,

As above, I suspect the actuator... it still makes the right kind of noises and works sometimes, but the rest of the time just won't budge! I had a similar experience a couple of years ago on the rear passenger door, usually worse in the cold, but that seems to have sorted itself. I notice the part isn't that expensive, here in the UK, but it's pain it's a pain to fit right?

Thoughts?

It's a 30min job tops. I've changed my drivers one twice and it's dead easy.

Follow this guide and you can't go wrong.  Just don't rush it

Just remember to get the right part number with correct revision. I fitted a revision J and it wouldn't activate my central locking via the door button. I refitted the correct revision and works fine now.

Nice one! Cheers mate, I was just going to order one of eBay? They're a reputable part centre - used them loads of times before.

I was thinking, if it didn't paly ball on the day - straight MOT failure right?

Yeah ot would fail. The doors have to function from the inside and outside as they are designed to do.  Juat remember to follow the step carefully and take your time and you will be fine.
When I took my door skin off I put the screws in separate bags with a label on so I knew what side of the door they go back in. Some are pointy ended and some are flat. Otherwise its a easy Job just don't rush the door handle part.

Good guide that.

My drivers door plays up with the central locking sometimes. Sometime I have to turn the the key in the door to get it to lock sometimes it locks off the key fob.

Would I need to replace to unit as in the video?

More than likely. When my passenger side packed in, I couldn't open the door from inside or outside. Had no choice but let the main dealer fix it. Cost me nearly £500.
My vcds flagged up a drivers door fault shortly after so I changed it myself. So long as you get the same part number and revision you will be fine.

Interesting this. My driver's side has played up a few times recently, but a whwn I repeat on the key fob, it opened up ok...... I didn't realise it was an MOT failure. Juts had my MOT, but that never ocurred to me.

I do get an intermitant enginine management light....a  couple of times a year...never managed to fathom it out.... just goes out on its own  after a day or so. Sometimes it triggers the warning light below, and then goes limp mode - I was thinking sods law that it'll happen on the MOT day, but it didn't. Any thoughts on that? It's random when it happens.  Have  thought about buying an obd11 to clear the code when it happens again, but really ought to find the cause of the problem - any suggestions welcome, ta..

Where do you plug the obd into ?

cheers

Look under the shelf below the steering wheel just above the pedals on the right.

Speaking from experience, if your door lock starts the play up then change it before it dies and you cant open the door and you have to get a dealer to fix it.

Definitely get the codes read for the engine light tho.

God knows! They charged me for rivets and yet when I changed the drivers side myself, there was no rivets involved or support bracket.

Yeah that's what I mean, that must be the 'support' thing on your invoice?

I never questioned it at the time. Was only after I replaced the drivers side myself and realised what they charged me for, there was nothing wrong with the door handle. Was a dead locking mechanism. An rivets???? There isn't any
