MK5 in Candy White
« on: February 24, 2021, 05:30:55 pm »
Hi all,

Have owned this a couple of months now but only just started driving it regularly as it needed the exhaust sorting (had a decat downpipe and middle silencer delete which was way too loud/droney so I had a 200 cell sports cat welded in and got the silencer put back on).

As you can probably tell by the plates it's a jap import and has only been in the UK for 1 year. I'm not really a fan of the plates and was going to swap the front for a UK shape plate but that would mean it wouldn't match as I would need a new bumper to change the back. The front is growing on me though. I paid £3700 for the car and details are;

- 2008 5 door dsg with paddles
- 99k miles
- Xenons
- Cruise control
- 18 inch Monzas with 4 Michelin ps4's with loads of tread left
- Custom remap to 262 bhp by EST performance (figures before I added sports cat)
- Ramair intake
- Auto lights/wipers (not sure if these are standard?)
- Rear reading lights (again, standard?)
- Under seat trays on drivers and passengers side
- Puddle lights
- Sweeping indicators
- Mk7 key mod
- Rear centre armrest (standard?)
- Rear tinted windows (not sure if this is factory option or not)
- Heko wind deflectors
- Have mfsw buttons but not yet fitted
- Think the brakes may be upgraded as someone told me I have drilled and grooved discs? Not sure about what make or what pads are on there.

Overall condition is great, can't see any rust coming through and the underside is very clean too. Drives great and is very quick in sport mode with the paddles.

In the last 12 months it's had cambelt and water pump, dsg service, cam follower, diverter valve, pcv valve and also new oil sump (not sure why?).

I would have really like heated seats and am on the lookout for some edition 30 seats but proving hard to come by.

Let me know what you think and any suggestions of any further mods I could do? Interested in upgrading the interior if I can, I think it already has the Mk6 switches with the chrome though. Also I would really like to get it colour coded but can't afford it at the moment, quoted £300-£350 for the rear bumped and the same for the skirts. Here are a few pics.

And here's what most of the service history looks like

Wow love that service history! Very clean looking example, much more so than mine lately! Cool interior upgrades are stuff like the bottle opener and gti badges to fit in the front seat handles, all can be found on ebay.

Makes a huge difference when the bumpers are colour coded. I wouldn't be afraid to have a go yourself, there are quite  a few guides on the web to do it and if you mess it up you just take it to a body shop and they sort it and paint as they were always going to anyway. The previous owner did ones on mine but I'm planning on re-doing them soon especially considering the side skirts are currently completely different colours lol.

Hi yes it's not too bad for its age seems to have been fairly well looked after. It's already got the bottle opener and gti inserts you mentioned. One thing I would like is the mats with the red piping but can't seem to figure out which are the best from pics online, does anyone know what the genuine mats look like?

I would consider attempting the bumpers, or at least prepping them, but think i would prefer to find a UK rear bumper first so I can change the plates.

An edition 30 rear bumper is currently available in the for sale section. Something I want to do as well but I have brakes and front control arms to sort out first.

Thanks but looking again at the rear of my car I would need the whole rear section up to the lights in order to fit a UK plate.

The one I was looking at (can’t find it now) was whole bumper. Link on the bay is here and is a forum member I believe. You’d need to have it painted though.

Looks super! The Japanese really treasure their cars.

Regarding the oil sump change, it does seem unecassary but I would suspect it had something to do with the oil pickup pipe. The filter in the pickup pipe gets clogged over time and can starve the engine.

I’m on 78k and I plan to have it done some time soon also.

Also, I had an ibiza previously and for whatever reason, the oil sump design changed part way though it’s manufacturing years and I was supplied the wrong sump plug for it’s oil change and told I had an early revision sump. Not sure if this was the case for the golf.

I love the interior on my mk5 how it is I just wish it had a better stereo like yours. I think I’ll be upgrading that.

As for exterior mods I think the clear valeo rear lights look great on these and help update the look. Some might say they are a bit Lexus inspired and distasteful but each to their own I think they look cool, very pricey though.

Hi, yes got to admit I was surprised how clean it was inside and out for the miles. The stereo doesn't work unfortunately and is only in there to stop the rattle of the wires until I get a new one. The guy who sold me it said it only needed a wiring harness, turned out to be a lie and the unit is knackered (had it bench tested). Shame as it's still about £400 in Halfords. Will check out the Valeo lights thanks.
