ED30 Front Coil Springs Factory Colour Codes?
« on: March 05, 2021, 11:41:05 am »
Guys in process of replacing a broken front coil spring, the original ones on the car (both Ns and Os) have Blue, Red, Green, Green colour code. However after ordering replacement springs from VW main dealer they have turned up with Yellow White Yellow Yellow colour code?

Any ideas?
Could someone enlighten me to which ones are correct?

Thanks
Max

Your originals would have just superseded to the part you have.

Spoke to VW they have no idea if it is a superseded part :scared:

The new part number is 1KO 411 105 JF

Guess I'll have to fit them and hope VW are correct as seems to be lack of info regarding this subject

It's a gamble unfortunately.  You may find the new springs elevate the ride height somewhat.  I've seen that all too many times with VW springs.  They never just stick to the original factory recipe with springs and dampers.

Those paint dots determine all manner of things. Production year, spring rate, ride height.....all sorts.  You tend to find customers complain of bashing bumpers into kerbs etc and VW quietly increase the height accordingly.  You won't know until you fit them!

I attempted to go back to OEM whilst my coilovers are off for rebuild, but through ECP and VW, there's just too much uncertainty with the spring part numbers and damper choices, so I've opted to go with the -20mm ST kit instead through DPM performance in the interim.

I was also up for the B12 Pro kit, but again, too many choices.

ST do at least seem to have their schitt together when it comes to model specific configurations.

This was my thinking Pudding, I really like the ride height/ feel at the moment.... Why can't VW just keep parts as they were when the vehicle left the production line

What are the ST springs like, tempted to follow suit now I've seen the price!!!!
Can get set of 4 ST springs for £161
VW charged me £107 per spring for fronts and that was trade price.....!!!

Thanks

I have no idea mate   Can't really go wrong with KW made stuff tbh.

I've taken a punt on the £449 shock/spring kit.  The cheapest I found it online.... and he's on this forum (damian @ dpm), I like to support small UK businesses  :happy2:

The VWR kit @ £540 is too soft imo, so hopefully the ST kit is a better compromise.  £100 a corner is a bloody good value if the ride and handling are good!

The OEM stuff has risen sharply in price and given the springs snap easily, and the SACHS dampers like to rid themselves of their gas pressure, I'd say an aftermarket kit is objectively a better option.

For some reason my reply wasn't posted properly.

Pudding can you report back with your finds once fitted and settled in?
Cheers.
