Need info on CDL engine swaps

Hello Everyone,

If anyone has saw my previous post about my engine dying, I am now looking at doing a CDL engine swap, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to anything mechanical, but I have some friends that will be able to help me fit the engine. Does anyone have a CDL engine swap DIY post they can forward me? I'm looking to keep it FWD. If anyone can give me some prerequisites before I purchase anything, that would be really helpful.

Any information would be lovely and very much appreciated.

Mechanically it's a drop-in replacement but you will need all of the CDL's ancillaries.  Boost pipes, intercooler etc etc.

The electronics is the fun part. 

You can either:-

Swap in the CDL engine harness and ECU, which will need immobiliser coding and a lot of CAN component disabling (Haldex delete etc)

Or....

Retain the existing GTI harness and ECU, but you will need a remap to account for the larger injectors, higher turbo and fuel pump flow, different cam profiles, different VVT profiling etc etc.

The latter option is the least painful overall.

Are you near an established VW tuner?

It's well worth the effort though as the CDL/CDLA/BYD K04 engines are strong as war bunkers so long as they're looked after and not over tuned

Thank you again @Pudding I'm in Leicester so R Tech isn't too far away but I've heard many issues relating to their schedule. At the current moment, I am trying to plan ahead before I buy anything to make things easier in the long run and without scrambling to buy parts or rushing around like a headless chicken.  My thoughts would be to engine swap, and talk to advanced tuning in Leicester just to dial it in for the GTI harness. Until R tech has a spot to dial in the car properly and get it dyno'd etc.
