New member to GTI
« on: March 25, 2021, 10:54:14 am »
May I introduce my self as a "FRAUD" to membership of the GTI forum. I am a 74 year old pensioner who should know better. I have two Audi tt `s MK1, a coupe and convertible. Another car made in Munich and one made in Stuttgart. I have foolishly with hindsight purchased an Audi A3 type 8p. The car was reported to have a cam chain problem (2.0FSI) so I purchased a Gates cam kit and VW water pump for the garage to resole the problem. Investigation showed no oil to the head,  then I purchased an engine of the same code BVY to replace the existing. The cam belt kit (Gates) and clutch kit (Euro parts) would fit. When trying to fit the engine, the underneath showed the rear suspension parts heavily rusted due to standing on grass a long time. So the garage advise to not proceed further. The body shell is sound.
I need to find an A3 with a 2.0fsi shot engine or fit to something else, which is why I entered this site, to see if the seats would fit a Golf. Also had anyone replaced a 1.6 FSI engine with a 2.0FSI and how difficult it is/was.
I can find lots of A3 either 1.6 or "diesel" (I dont like them) to fit the engine in but the garage is advising against. What VW Golfs would my engine and seats fit please, Its a 4 door A3. Type 8P.  I could purchase a 4 Door 2.0 GT to resolve the problem
I know I should put down the shovel and stop digging, and try to sell off the parts, but that spoils the fun.
Any advise on fitting seats or engine would be appreciated.
Paul.

Welcome FRAUD .........I too am a 4 ring girl  (I own a few special ones) :star: but I must be honest and say my little works bitch gti has a soft place in my heart!!! I am looking for a change but nothing seems to hold the same attraction of that mk5 gti
As to question on seats iirc most a3 stuff will fit as long as rails are changed or modified and visa versa but please don’t hold me to this as I am no mechanic  :scared:
