Adding MFSW and/or Cruise Control
« on: April 02, 2021, 09:34:43 am »
I have a manual Nov 2008 MkV GTI, without a MFSW or Cruise Control (CC), both of which I would quite like to add.

From reading other threads it sounds like:
 - I cannot just have buttons added to the existing wheel, it has to be replaced
 - The MFSW does not have CC buttons on it, it appears that CC is on a stalk instead

What are the buttons on the RHS of the MFSW for then?
If they are all just controls for the stereo, then I probably wouldn’t bother.

Are there any MFSWs from later models that do have CC included that can be easily added to my car?
If not, then I’d probably just look at getting the CC stalk added, would VW supply and fit that, and has anyone had it done and how much did it cost?

I'm based near Upminster, so if there are any places nearby better than VW for the work, that would be good to know too  :happy2:

Thanks in advance.

Non MFSW wheels do not have the same moldings to receive the switches and wheel module.

But if you are really determined to retain current wheel, the material on the wheel can be hollowed out to receive them - the module is the middle box below:

The right hand buttons just control menus on the dash.

I suspect it would be easier to just get a Mk5 cruise control stalk - read up here: https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=35449.0

VW would do it, everything would need to be brand new genuine and at what price?

I would not be 100% confident the technicians are still familiar with an ageing Mk5? - better to find a specialist.

I had cruise control retrofitted by https://www.vw-retrofit.co.uk

It’s completely OEM in that he replaces your indicator stalk for a second hand cruise control version. And then some coding. If I recall it was about £60 all in to do that but don’t hold me to it as it was about 3 years ago.

Is yours DSG or manual? If it’s DSG and you have the paddles the MFSW is very straight forward. If yours is manual then as said above you will have to cut out the space to be able to install the buttons but it is more involved and you may need coding and other things. There are guides out there.
