Control arm busbushing bolt size

Hi I was recently changing my worn control arm bushes in my 06 mk5 gti and unfortunately I snapped one of the 16ml bolts, was wondering if anyone know the required measurements for me to get another one made at a fasteners shop, thank you in advance for your help

I think you mean item 19 it quotes the bolt dimension in the listing.

Sorry to reserect this thread. But I have done the same thing, was attempting to install an anti lift kit on my edition 30. Unfortunately the first of the two smaller bolts for the rear control arm bush has snapped. Is it just a matter of drilling out and re tapping? Thanks.

Did it snap flush with the subframe?

Well I didn't remove the others as I didnt want any more snapping. At a guess I would say there is about 3mm of bolt coming out into the bushing right now. But havent had it completely off yet.

It will probably back out if you can grip it. Quick blast with some heat if not.

I had this happen when I installed my alk. The bolts corrode at the very tips where they sit proud of the subframe and won't come out unless you wire brush the tips of them. It's probably a galvanic reaction with the subframe being Al/si.

If you can get it threaded back in, clean up the exposed portion at the top before you try and back it out again. If it's seized solid, don't bother trying to drill it out unless you've got a seriously heavy duty drill. I tried with my pistol drill and just rinsed through bits. It really needed a pillar drill on it at that point but honestly it's much quicker to replace the console portion of the subframe - mine cost £20 from a breakers on eBay plus the bolts that mount it to the body.

I had this problem, the reaction between the zinc bolt and the alloy created a fine powder that just jammed the thread into the thread, even after the side subframe was off with it in the oven, melting wax intot he threads - it would not shift the remains of the bolt.

As mentioned by Brian above - easier to swap out for replacement, but they can be found a bit cheaper at around £16 a side on ebay - some sellers will next day delivery if you are desperate
