Android Head Unit
« on: May 12, 2021, 04:05:32 pm »
Hi!

Just taken ownership of my old man's 54 plate, MkV GTI and looking to update the radio unit.

I'm ideally looking for something that will still work with the 6Cd changer and has Bluetooth to mirror my phone screen as I'd mostly use that for SatNav. Anything with a USB port to charge the phone would be a bonus too.

Been looking through old posts and can't seem to find a definite answer on whether or not the CD changer is compatible and also most the posts are a few years old so I assume things might have moved on since then?

The more I'm reading the more I think the CD changer will become obsolete. Not so much a problem as I can use Spotify over the Bluetooth.

Is this the sort of thing I'm gonna be needing? Coming with the canbus to stop the possible battery drain?

this is what I have https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32896632275.html

No need for CD's as I just bluetooth spotify. It looks OEM and surprises everyone that gets in the car about how modern looking it is. It's also plug and play meaning a chimp like me could install it.

Hi Mike,

Do you have to use a cable to have apple car play to activate or is it wireless? I've seen a few adapters for wireless car play?

Have to use the cable but I don't bother, bluetooth does everything for me
